#BFRBAwarenessWeek
October 1-7th is BFRB Awareness week. Today is Day 2
What is a BFRB?
BFRB stands for Bodily Focused Repetitive Behavior. There are lots of BFRB including:
Trichotillomania: Where a person repetitively pulls out their hair from their head, eyebrows legs, arms, pubic hair.
Trichophagia: Where a person repeatedly pulls out their hair and then eats it. It can be dangerous resulting in hairballs that need to be surgically removed.
Trichotemnomania: Where a person compulsively cuts their own hair.
Dermatillomania: Repetitive picking of their own skin. You can touch, rub, pick, dig or scratch into your skin.
Dermatophagia: Where a person bites the cuticles of your fingers or eats picked scabs. Cheek, tongue and lip biting can also be considered deratophagia.
Cheek or lip biting keratosis: Repetitive biting in an area leading to white spots of keratosis (callous like formations)
Tongue chewing: Chewing on the side of your tongue.
Onychotillomania: destruction of finger or toe nails by chronic picking and manicuring of the said nails.
Onychophiagia: Like Onychotillomania but habitual biting of the finer or toe nails.
There are many more BFRBs but those are what I could find from www.bfrb.org
Who does it effect?
BFRBs effect men and women. I will be re-blogging more post with more information. I would have more information but I don’t want to spread mis-information. My next post will be about My BFRBs and how I deal with it.
