Feras Morad

is the 20 year old brother of one of my good friends. He was a scholar and a champion debater at his school. He was a caring and harmless young man with a big future, yet he was shot on May 27th by police. He was unarmed and in need of medical assistance after falling from a second story window. His family was contacted three days later regarding his death by a facebook message. The LBPD did nothing to contact the family of the young man they had killed. When the police aren't there to protect you when you're in need, then who is?  When I watched this video, I was swept to tears. I knew how passionate the Morad family was about this cause, but I was able to feel the anger, the outrage, and the helplessness felt by this family. Rest in Peace Feras, you have many supporters.

We had immense support today from Black Lives Matter and the Morejon Family as well as several other organizations. Now it is time to give back to the community that supported us in our time of need. Long Beach Police have released a transcript of the call with dispatch. This transcript shows that the police were fully aware that Feras was unarmed. The officer involved has no excuses, they knew Feras did not have a weapon. We will have ‪#‎justice4feras‬

The amount of support for Feras is overwhelming. We are hurt, but we are not afraid. We have been hit, but we still stand. We will be heard. ‪#‎Justice4Feras‬

There have been enough comments, likes, and shares. The Long Beach Police Department has refused to change their narrative despite evidence, has refused to notify the family of the deceased, and has refused to acknowledge our requests for transparency.   It is now time to show the Long Beach Police Department how many physical bodies want the real story heard. We will march from Lincoln Park and walk two laps around the Long Beach Police building. This rally functions to honor Feras and request honest discourse from a law enforcement agency that has provided anything but. We will be heard.

It’s 4:30 p.m. and we’re still waiting for the Long Beach Police Department to publish their promised press release. Why? Do they think justice for Feras Morad only works between the hours of 9:00 to 5:00? Are they under the impression that we’ll all go home to our families and stop paying attention at the end of the day? Wrong, because ‪#‎FerasMorad‬ never went home to his family. We will never stop working, never stop paying attention, and never stop demanding justice on his behalf.
