VIDEO: NBC Allegedly Alters Witness Interview to Fit Police Narrative of Shooting

The NBC News brand is indisputably suffering from a disastrous integrity crisis in the wake of the Brian Williams controversy that was exposed in February of this year. Despite the massive black-eye the networks reputation has received, new allegations continue to surface about NBC and that they perpetuate a culture of dishonesty.

Case and point, this latest allegation of NBCs journalistic malfeasance while covering the shooting death of Feras Morad.

Last week, 20 year old Feras Morad of California was shot and killed by Long Beach Police after ingesting hallucinogenic mushrooms. According to those close to Morad, he was an honor roll student who planned to study at Harvard Law. His friends and family state that Morad did not have any type of police record, nor did he ever a negative interaction with law enforcement prior to this incident.

In all fairness, friends and family rarely come forward in the wake of a police shooting and state that the individual involved deserved what happened… However it is important to highlight that there are multiple sides of a story. Nevertheless, moving on.

The allegation of malfeasance comes into play after NBC Los Angeles reporter Kate Larsen interviewed Bob Garner, a witness to the Morad incident. Allegedly, the NBC team took Garners interview and then edited the footage to depict a conversation that never occurred according to the Richard Florence, the man that recorded Bob Garner being interviewed by NBC.

Richard Florence, a friend of the slain student who happened to record a video of the video interview between NBC reporter Kate Larsen and witness Bob Garner, posted the video to Facebook with the following

#CanIGetAWitness NBC chopping up words to make up a conversation that never happened. Ok so I turn the corner and see #NBC interviewing this dude so I film their interview & make sure to catch the 11 oclock news tonight to compare the two.

EVERYONE PLEASE TWEET #NBC Ask them why they need to make shit up!

Notice how he says Feras is walking towards the officer like this…and does a shuffling motion with his hands up.

Then watch the news version edit add in audio of the womans voice saying, Towards the… and the mans voice from minutes later or earlier saying he was acting very aggressive yeah.

NBC is attempting to support the narrative that Feras approached the officer aggressively and are editing audio to do so.

Why do you think the cop racially profiled and then just randomly shot Feras. He was found with hallucinogenic shrooms in his system, and a struggle obviously took place. I'm Arab myself, and I doubt a struggle took place.

I honestly I don’t know! Reading the story I saw that he was disoriented after falling and had a bad reaction to the hallucinogenic mushrooms and the officer was upset he wasn’t complying with his demands. His friends say the screamed at the officer that fears was unarmed and needed medical attention but I truly believe the officer over reacted and when he saw that Feras wasn’t complying with his orders, felt the need to just shoot him dead. And afterwards when discovering that he wasn’t a white teen decided he wasn’t important enough to tell his parents that their son was dead. (I read the parents found out on Facebook???) such a sad story. I hope they win the lawsuit.

Nearly two months after an unarmed Feras Morad, 20, was fatally shot by a Long Beach police officer, Morad’s relatives say they’re still seeking answers to what happened that May night: Why did the officer not wait for backup before confronting the college student? Why has no one been charged with a crime? 

The officer was called to the 4600 block of East 15th Street about 7:30 p.m. on a report of a person leaping or stumbling from a second-story window. The caller said the person needed medical attention, was acting erratically and was possibly violent but unarmed, according to a 911 recording released by Long Beach police.

Kareem Morad, a cousin of Feras Morad, told The Times days after the shooting that Morad had made a "silly mistake of experimenting with [hallucinogenic] mushrooms and, unfortunately, he had a bad reaction to it. He needed help, and he didn't get the help he needed."

When the officer arrived, he confronted Morad without backup. The officer told Morad he was there to help, according to a department's statement. But Morad "advanced" on the officer, who fired a Taser twice, officials said. 

A "physical struggle" ensued and the officer struck Morad with his flashlight, said David Hendricks, deputy chief of the department's investigative bureau. During the struggle, the two men momentarily separated, Hendricks said, though he wouldn't say how far apart they were. Then Morad allegedly advanced again and the officer shot him, police said.“You watch this in the news. This stuff happens to other people; it doesn’t happen to us, and when it happened to me, I’m still in disbelief,” said Morad’s father, Amr Morad, 60. “We see it in the movies. Not to my son.”

Hernandez was temporarily put on administrative leave after the shooting and has returned to duty.  Police said there was no patrol car dashboard camera or body camera video of the confrontation. In their claim, Morad’s family says he was shot five times and that witnesses said he wasn’t violent.

He was likely suffering from head trauma from the fall from the window and couldn’t understand the orders the officer was giving him, according to the claim.

The family is seeking $28 million and a change in police policies that the family’s attorney claims permitted the deadly May 27 confrontation.

“I’m still proud of him to this day. He’s in my heart forever and I wish I could see him for a second one last time to tell him I love him,” Morad’s mother, Amal Alkabra, said as she sobbed in an interview with The Times.
