I just came across this in a book and I'm a little obsessed. I love old descriptive notation systems for things we've since turned into computer-friendly numerical description.
E.g. Compass cards now are all split into 360 degrees.
E.g. Chess notation switched from the elegant descriptive notation ("pawn to queen's rook 6") to algebraic notation ("a7 to a6").
I'm sure there's other examples too but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
