Today is the official day Australia sets aside to celebrate...... being Australia, I guess. It’s also the date that Australia started being colonised, marking the beginning of years of mass murder and genocide of our First Nations people. This has only been the date for Australia Day for a few decades, so there is no reason why it needs to be this date. It could literally be moved a day earlier or later. Leaving it where it is shows a blatant disregard for Australian Aboriginal people. We should do better as a nation.
