Turn Weakness Into Strength

In this story I’ve been reading there is this side character who suffers from insomnia. For about 99% of the book it’s a miner hinderance/annoyance for the character but no one else is overly bothered by it (except to be concerned over their friend). Like, yeah, it exists and there are drawbacks, but it doesn’t hurt the story at all; just a character trait that causes them to be tired a lot.

Then comes this chapter I’m at right now where some (rather minor all things considered) baddies come in the middle of the night to hurt the main characters. They aren’t out in the woods and they aren’t expecting anyone or anything to happen where they are so there is no one watching the perimeter or anything like that.

But lo and behold, our local insomniac is awake to set off the (metaphorical) alarm and wake the gang. Their ‘weakness’ is now something that probably saved the team from injury if not their lives.

Favorite part? The author’s note where they mention that, honestly? They hadn’t given the character insomnia to give them this heroic ‘save the day’ moment. They gave the character insomnia to give them a unique trait none of the other characters had. But when the author was writing this chapter and asked themselves ‘How will the main character/hero know the baddies are here?’ they realized they accidentally had a built-into-the-story-on-accident solution!

My transformation Tuesday is a little different (not my tattoo) because sometimes you aren't always transforming from worse to better. Sometimes your transformations are those that are unseen, but unstoppable, and not one that you wanted, but that you have to learn to live with. . I have anxiety, developed suddenly after the birth of our second child. I have good days. I have bad days. But I have an amazing support system and a phenomenal and loving husband who is patient with me, understanding, and supportive. . In a year, I have transformed into a woman with better control of it and more self awareness of what helps and what doesn't. Exercise and EO's are a God send!! But I still struggle to ask for help at times, and that is the independence in me and ever battling fear of looking weak. Today is a very important day to me( being someone who suffers from a mental Illness ) and many others. Maybe suffer in silence in fear of the stigma that has been attached to mental illness. This need to stop. We need to end this. We need to let those who suffer know that it is not bad ,that they shouldn't feel like they are going to be looked upon differently when they need help or seek help. Having a mental illness or seeking help isn't being weak and it should never been seen like that. character in general: ben is pretty great. he’s well thought-out and one of the best OCs I know. he’s not like everyody else and i think that’s what makes OCs special.how they play them: well, it’s B’s OC, so I’d say pretty well .xD the mun: B and I have known each other for aaaaaaaaages and is one of the few people who sticks to your side in good and bad times.

Gasps and groans tumbled from Thomas’s lips as the hands and fingers pressing firmly into his back and shoulders worked whatever magic they held into his skin. He fisted the dark sheets and arched as said hands slipped lower down the length of his spine, thumbs compressing each individual knot with little strain. Thomas sucked in a breath, a full body shiver rolling over his form where he lay--metaphorically--dead on the massage table. “Mm… Benjamin. That was amazing.”
