I frequently notice that I alternate between being meek in class, playful with friends, disconnected when I'm exhausted, and lively when I finally feel secure. It's adapting, not being fake. Situational influence is what social psychology refers to, but to me, it's survival—figuring out which aspects of myself match the situation without losing myself as a whole.
Perhaps personality is a reaction rather than a fixed characteristic, formed by situations, context, and the subtle drive to fit in.
