year of art - 2025

What a year. Some of these pieces feel like forever ago. @@ I also forgot what my resolutions were so I had to go back and check lol.

use up my non-cotton paper? I finished one sketchbook and made a dent in another. I've been using more cotton in general, which was the bigger goal, so: half-win.

use different mediums? another half. The fountain pen ink was very new for me and I'm doing more gouache.

more plein air? I've been painting sights in my area and abroad, and it's really cool. I'd like to do even more, but this was a total win!

make more art and have fun? I did have fun.

My goal for 2026 is more measurable (and singular). Complete 100 artworks. That'll include plein air and RL projects, so I won't actually post 100 things here unless I suddenly get a glorious amount of free time. It should still be a lot of fanart if I can do this though.

I want to use what I've learned this year to work faster, looser, and become more comfortable with casual pieces between the stuff I spend days meticulously painting, you know?

Thank you as always to everyone who encourages me. There are some of you whose usernames and icons are really familiar by now and it's fun seeing you throughout the year. Your likes and tags and just general friendliness on tumblr and elsewhere make this a fun community to be part of! (Especially on tumblr tho~)

Whumptober 2025 #1-16

As much as I like the idea of finishing a whole month for an art challenge, I like doing detailed pieces more. So 16 is better than last year and that's enough for me! Plus I got to try a lot of different ideas and techniques. It feels like good experience all around, and I'm really proud of some of these paintings! (‾◡◝)

The truth is I always want to ramble about art techniques and supplies, but someone asked so I do have an excuse this time! ♪(´▽｀)

This month I'm painting with fountain pen inks and regular household bleach. I use just one of my two inks per piece so the color palette stays really limited.

Diamine Earl Grey can separate into blue and pink when mixed with lots of water, and Parker Quink Black can separate into blue and yellow (but my example doesn't show it that well). The separation effect goes even further with a tiny drop of bleach added to the wet paper.

Bleach is too strong on its own and usually just turns everything white, but when diluted with water, the bright colors start to show!

year of art - 2024

DN IN 2024??? Sorry, I had to~

I think I actually met my goal of more complex compositions this year? At least during whumptober! I had a lot of fun with the perspectives and muted colors. I also worked through a chunk of my collection of… decent papers. I can finally admit to myself that the nice paper is never going to happen until I have no other choices. xD

I've gained some decent gouache EXP on the side too! I hope I can show that off soon! 💪

art goals for 2025:

more medium variety with markers, pencils, ink, and stuff

more plein air. I did a few irl pieces this year so I'm sloooowly getting the hang of it

but mostly i just hope to make more art and have fun! 🎉
