It was a little....much.
Julia mused the same thought for the fourth time in the last twenty minutes as she eyed the set up of her dining table. A wine bottle and a sparkling cider were towards the middle, chilling. A bowl of a kale salad with bacon, dates, almonds, crispy Shallots, and parmesan was off to the side. It was casual, two place setting with wine glasses - was the candle too much? It felt like too much.
Screw it, Jules decided and turned to rush back into the kitchen. Miles would be here any minute and she felt frazzled. A dinner date had never seen so damn intimidating before but she was extremely worried. Miles was getting a peek into her home, into who she was. On top of that, her cooking skills were being tested and with a frightening realization, Julia knew that tonight would somehow end up with Miles viewing her paintings. It’s why dinner had even come up. The vulnerability that came with that almost paralyzed her to the point she wanted to call to cancel the whole thing.
The pesto pasta with chicken she had made was ready and warm on the stove and after checking it one last time to make sure it was still good, Julia washed her hands and splashed some cold water on her cheeks. Date. It kept running through her mind and she didn’t think she remembered the last time she had ever been on a proper date. It had her nervous - she wanted it to go well, for once, despite how scared she was over whatever this thing between her and Miles was becoming.
The knock on her door alerted her that her moments of freaking out were done and Miles was here. “Shit,” Julia muttered, looking down at her outfit, something casual, and once she was presentable, Julia scurried out of her kitchen. “Coming,” She called out, eyeing her townhouse one last time. With a deep breath to calm her frazzled nerves and the erratic beating of her heart, Julia opened the door to reveal the shimmering emeralds she had grown to miss after only a few days. “Hi,” She greeted, a bright smile lightening her features as she stepped aside fro him to walk in. “Perfect timing, I just finished up dinner.” Julia told Miles, leaning up to press a soft kiss to his cheek in greeting once she had closed the door behind him. “Make yourself at home,” Julia welcomed him, closing the door behind them and giving Miles a moment to take in her home.

It hadn’t been easy but Julia’s moment had come when the officer standing outside their suite door had gone for a break. With the door unmanned, she had been able to sneak out the room and left unseen. She made it to the back of the building. Her damp hair still slung to her shoulders, even when she had tried to tie as much of it back as she could.
The marred skin along her collar bone and neck did little to hide what she had been up to before the event. It was part of the reason she couldn’t be in that fucking room for a second longer. “Miles?” she called out as she stepped outside, looking around to find him. This was so inappropriate but Asa was dead and Julia couldn’t and wouldn’t drink the grief away - this was the only other option for her.

It had taken a while, and Julia would never say this was her best but it was her best now. In her hands, she carried the finished piece Miles had commissioned from her a couple of weeks ago. It was the first time she had painted anything in nearly five years. The last couple of weeks had been a whirlwind. Between Mason coming back, her sleeping with Javier and Dominic, and then Heidi being murdered, she figured they needed something good.
Miles and Jules had grown continuously closer and closer, their bond and relationship solidifying more and more. Perhaps, that’s why she was riddled with guilt over her actions. Even if she was still, technically single. But today, she didn’t want to focus on that. She wanted to focus on the painting, it’s significance to not just her, but the testament of their relationship and how good it had been for each other.
Inhaling deeply, Jules, hide the canvas behind her (though, it wasn’t very well hid) and raised the hand holding Chinese take out to knock on Miles’ door. When the door opened to reveal the pair of deep greens she loved and the smile that made her worries disappear, Julia smiled brightly at him. “I brought dinner and a surprise.” She told Miles, stepping up and leaning upwards to greet him with a soft kiss to his lips.

Jordan wasn’t looking for a fight when he entered the store, but he knew exactly who worked there and was prepared for anything. He walked along the place with his hand trailing the stacks of music. Stopping at the end of the aisle, he leaned against a shelf. “You look like shit.” He joked, looking at Miles in reference to their fight. Probably wasn’t the best choice of words, but Jordan rarely ever thought before opening this mouth. “I actually came here to apologize for being a dick. I shouldn’t have hit you, man.” He knew that before he went and did anything to start making things right with Heather, he had to go see the people that he had wronged before her and decided to start with Miles.
