So today I had someone in the entertainment and acting industry tell me to “lose the weight” before trying to get work in Los Angeles. Honestly, I’m livid. First of all, this is what my body looks like. Pretty sure I’m average, and don’t need to lose any weight. Second of all, now might be a perfect time to announce that I am someone who has battled with an eating disorder not otherwise specified since I was 15 freaking years old on and off. Some days are harder than others but I am fighting hard to stay in recovery and take REAL care of myself. To be actually HEALTHY. This is my body now, and I will NOT apologize for it. This is one of the many reasons I’m working in this industry. So that my voice will he heard. No one deserves to be told “lose the weight”, even if they’re legitimately unhealthy and need to eat better or workout more. They need to be told TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. For the love all that is good and pure in this freaking world. I will not stop pursuing this career, and I will not compromise who I am for ANYONE. It has taken me years to learn to love the body God has given me, and I am not about to let that change now. I can get work without making myself skin and bones. And I am fully aware that this world won’t tend to my emotions or heart and that is fine, bring it on, be as brutal as you want. But I’ve been fighting my whole life for what I believe is right, and that’s not about to stop now. I won’t stop until my voice is heard. I won’t stop ever. I will help as much as I possibly can others who can relate to the struggles I have faced. I will make it known that HEALTHY IS THE NEW SKINNY. Get over it society, because you have NOT seen the last of me. Can’t wait to take you on LA. You’re in for a treat with me. 😉
