it’s  almost  funny   ( in a twisted sort of way ).   blood painting her like a badly reconstructed mosaic, seeping through the once blue of her blouse until all there is is red red red.   youth she’d once lost in the damned pod now  filling  exhausted eyes and trembling fingers giving a forgiving rub to where the woman’s hand rests on the wound. 

she’s so tired.   like a fading porch light left on too long to guide some lost family member home  -  or more bluntly,  like the moth that got too curious and flew too close.

she’d just wanted to  experience  the world.   and yet maybe some part of her was looking for a family that would love her for even just a heartbeat. 

“ ‘m sorry.” yet slowly jemma’s head lulls backwards, resting against the pilot’s may’s shoulder with only a feeble and young,  “I would have liked to have longer.”  maybe she’d never been meant to be though. her mother had always said she’d been born all wrong - cord around her neck and eyes so sad.  living on borrowed time as an iron stained laugh leaves tattered lips like a  consolation  prize. 

“you would have been proud of me. re-remembered what you taught me.” she fought back and in the end, what else could be said for her? she’d both been born and died  ready  to fight for just a few moments more…
