Happening now: @MayDayLB giving a workshop on the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), a secret free trade deal that will affect us here in Long Beach as well as internationally. Featured speakers include Joanna Diaz from Greater Long Beach Interfaith Community Organization (ICO), Brenna Norton from Food & Water Watch & Nikole Cababa from the Filipino Migrant Center. What is the TPP? A neoliberal economic policy that will privatize our public goods, give free reign to corporations in flooding local markets with their cheap products, and deregulating these companies by allowing them to sue governments if they pass laws that would affect their bottom line 💰💰💰 It has been described as "NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) on crack" and is being negotiated with the U.S. and 20+ countries along the Pacific Rim. The Philippines and other developing countries who are trying to join the TPP will have their economies devastated because not only will their sovereignty be violated but millions will be driven off their land, they'll be flooded with U.S. imports, and many low wage manufacturing and service industries will be created. We must always ask the question "for whom?" For whom will the TPP's interests serve? Not for you and me, but for the corporations and the ruling class who seek to only serve themselves. ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽 With that said, pleas join us this May 1st for the first ever May Day celebration in Long Beach! If you stand for workers' rights, love your community, want to get involved, come march with us on Sun 5/1 from MacArthur Park to City Hall at 3:00pm! Message us and we'll get in touch with you 😄 #longbeach #NotoTPP #maydaylb #thisisLB #internationalsolidarity
