and what i'm supposed to just go to sleep and lay my weary head to rest now ???
Some thoughts
I'm not from the US. Not even from America. I'm European. Belgian. Our politic is shitty enough that, most of the time, we really don't feel qualified to judge anyone, but right now? I'm bitter, I'm judgemental, I'm hurt, and most of all I'm scared.
It was one thing to not know where the world was heading, to be left wondering, uncertain, because at least there was hope. Now I know where the world is heading, and I don't like it. The only hope I have right now is that it's all a bad dream and I'll wake up soon to Kamala Harris winning and Trump will be sentenced to jail after all his felony convictions and no one will lose their rights, but since my alarm isn't ringing yet, I have very little hope it's the case.
It feels like we've learned nothing. It feels like hatred and ignorance won. It feels like the world is spinning backward, and it's not just about the US either: in Europe, we witnessed a rise of the far right mostly everywhere, even here, in Belgium (but let's be honest, Belgian politic is so shitty we'll have had another election before we have a governement, so eh). I was disheartened then and I am disheartened now. It feels like the more we preach tolerance and love, the more people fight back with increasingly violent ideas, and so we have to fight back and it's a never-ending escalation.
My heart aches for Americans, for the people whose rights are being directly threatened, but also for minorities around the globe that are faced with this clear message that they are not welcome here on planet Earth, and that millions of people hate them for just existing. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time in two decades that republicans win popular vote and it just sends a message I don't (and can't) like.
I want to say that the fight only just started, but I think that for now, we all deserve to rest and take care. If anyone reading this did vote for Kamala, know that I am thankful for your efforts, and I have the most respect for you
Today has been rough. I started my day feeling defeated, depressed, disappointed, disgusted, deflated and completely hopeless. I’m ending my day feeling the same way. Tomorrow will be better.
November 6th
I am thankful for a warm house on a cool morning.
