Reminder that the first two chapters of The Once-Fallen House are up on AO3 now! Chapter 2 has plenty of Spite.
“Spite,” Tali says as gently as possible.
The demon ignores her, striding back and forth, hands clenching.
“Spite,” she tries again.
A word rumbles out of him but she cannot make it out. He stares down at Lucanis’ bare feet as he walks back and forth and back and forth, lost in an endless loop in his mind. It makes her head spin to watch.
"Could you at least try twiddling your thumbs or something?" she finally pleads, her patience rapidly thinning.
That draws the spirit up short. "Twiddling?" he hisses, his face pinching in sour confusion at her suggestion.
Too exhausted to argue, Taliesin demonstrates with her own hands. "Anything other than this pacing. You're making me dizzy. And I need to get the blood out of Lucanis' hair before I vomit."
Spite grumbles in an irritated sing-song, "Lucanis, Lucanis-"
"Do you want to smell like Zara's blood magic?" she finally snaps.
He blinks glowing violet eyes back at her, momentarily speechless.
“I didn't think so,” she huffs. “Now sit your ass down. You can prattle all damn night if you feel like it but I need you to be still. Please.”
To her endless surprise, Spite shuffles over to sit on the wooden crate that she nudges toward him, his back to her and shoulders hunched forward.
“Are you sulking?” she asks, eyebrows climbing as she watches his rather theatrical display of displeasure.
“No,” he answers immediately, petulant.
