Novelization Anon: hey so, I’m kind of stuck on writing something. Any ideas on what gamma would win in a bet? Like the equivalent of ‘person a owes person b a coke’ for the spiral. It doesn’t have to be a beverage or anything, just something gamma would be in for betting on.

Treasure cards. For 2 reasons.

1) Gamma is like the mascot of Deckathalon, since he's the one to explain it ro us (Im 99% sure) and his face was the icon for all of the weekly events for the Scroll of Fortune. I headcanon that he was the one who made Deckathalon, and that he actively participates from time to time (when it rolls around and he isn't busy with administrative work), and ya need treasure cards in Decka.

2) Gamma presents himself as a fairly proper and serious and responsible person. As basically the 2nd oldest Ravenwood faculty (having been by Ambrose's side since before Ravenwood was made), he cant exactly go around betting gold like some lousy pirate in a tavern! It wouldnt look good for his public image. So instead, he dabbles in the treasure card 'black market', which at this point is just a second freaking market among the Ravenwood community, and heck, maybe among wizards across the Spiral. After all, the biggest player-made trading server (that I know of) is called GAMMA's Trading Post (It's got over 14k people in it). And I for one love taking headcanons not just from game material, but community material too.

I’m trying to come up with some good qualities for Cassidy, as I’ve been coming up with a lot of flaws. I want to give her some redeeming qualities so she isn’t so unlikable that the readers question why her friends stick around with her. Any advice?

One of the best tips Ive ever read abt how to write a 3D character is that flaws and virtues are 2 sides of the same coin.

Cassidy's impulsivity could translate to bravery and ambition. She's unafraid to take any task set ahead of her, even if she's yet to learn some much-needed patience.

Her overconfidence could come from plain-old confidence. She trusts herself, her abilities, and her plans, even when some of them don't work out. She doesn't allow anything to crush her spirit.

I dont remember how else you characterized her bc im on the verge of passing out but I hope this helps out a bit.

Guess who just started writing the first chapter? This guy! Also, I plan for Cassidy to immediately, upon seeing Malistaire in Golem Court, try to blast him with a myth magic zero pop damage spell, which he catches and throws aside like he does in the fancy animated commercials.

Hell yea congrats! Going from just talking about your story to actually writing it is a huge step. Im proud of you!

Ooh, another thing I could do with the wormwood vs Wyrmwood thing is have Cassidy not realize the fact that she is registered as Wyrmwood, so she writes down Cassidy Wormwood on an assignment for Cyrus, to which Cyrus snidely writes on the paper that Cassidy couldn’t even spell her own surname correctly. Suffice it to say, Cassidy takes great umbrage with this.

Ouch. Of course Cyrus would be a bitch about Wormwood vs Wyrmwood.

You know, I’ve been considering changing Cassidy’s last name from Legendweaver to Wyrmwood, as I feel Legendweaver is a bit too on the nose and it doesn’t really make sense for Cassidy to not be given a place holder surname of earth to put on documents and the like. Plus, the idea I have is for Cassidy to tell Ambrose when she first meets that her last name is Wormwood, but he mistakenly writes down Wyrmwood, which Cassidy runs with because it sounds cool. Any thoughts?

I love the idea of having Cassidy's Earth-name being a little 'corrupted' by her being in the Spiral. It helps cement her as both an insider and outsider. Her name is Earthen but it's forced into a Spiralian spelling, the way she's a normal kid from Earth who's forced into a great and magical destiny.

One of my characters also had their surname misheard. My pirate, Dirk. Their full name is Jesse Diederick Gerard (bc I liked the meanings of those names), however Boochbeard misheard the Gerard as Gerald, which is a possible surname in p101.

Legendweaver is still a kickass name, though. What if Cassidy later earns that surname through her adventures, as a sort of title? She gets a more fantastical name as she lives for longer in the fantastical Spiral.

You know, I've actually had an interesting idea on how to handle a lot of the side quests in wizard city. I plan to cover them in the time between Cass's adventures on Unicorn Way, and the boroughs. I plan for this part of the Wizard City story line to be more lowkey and slice of life, while still act as a means to establish characters, worldbuilding, and provide levity. Do you think that would bog down the story's flow too much?

I don’t think it’d bog the story down at all! Since it’s at the very start of the story, you’re allowed to be slow. You can world build, the stakes are low for the characters, it lets each of the other students get more than like... 10 minutes of attention at most, and it can serve as contrast to later parts of the story where tension is high and Cass is forced to rush to save the Spiral.

Novelization Anon: one idea I’ve had for a running gag is Cassidy messing up her teleportation in the beginning, with her ending up a few feet above or below her destination. Or, when she teleports to the commons or the oasis or regent square, she teleports face first into the water.

Amateurs making amateur mistakes is always endearing to watch! Also funny.

Novelization Anon: One idea I’ve had is based on extravalgant’s idea for earth humans not having the same magic blockers as spiral inhabitants, meaning that they can output more mana for a spell than spiral natives. However, Cass- in the beginning of the first arc over uses this ability in order to feel power and live out her wish fulfillment. This causes her health to slowly degrade until she can’t ignore the symptoms anymore. In marleybone, she starts coughing up blood in front of her friends.

oh god, Cass got magic tuberculosis :O

i wish i could add something a bit more. clever or like genuine feedback but that was my first and only thought in response kjshgdsf it's 1030 PM on a friday night, im tired
