hey I've been thinking about learning the violin. And I just wanted to ask if it's an easy instrument to play? And pros or cons? Thank you. :)

hello! i’m so glad that you’re interested in violin! :’)

my answer is under the cut since it’s quite long, but i hope it helps!!

as someone who’s been playing the violin for about 12 years now, i can say that it’s much easier to play it now than when i first started. however, with that being said, the violin isn’t necessarily easier or harder to play than other instruments. 

as my current violin teacher and my former violin teacher have both told me, it’s easier to start learning how to play violin if you start as a kid. when you’re younger, you’re more flexible, and it’s easier for you to put yourself in the proper position to play (and with good posture!). on the other hand, when you’re older, you’re likely not as flexible, so learning violin will be a bit more difficult (but not impossible!). 

pros:

if you decide to join an orchestra, you have the opportunity and a chance of becoming the concertmaster! :D 

the violin parts of orchestral and other ensemble music (quartets, trios, etc.) are usually more interesting, lol.

there’s a wide variety of music that you can play! you can choose to play classical music, more modern music, or pretty much whatever you like.

you can impress your family and friends with your skills, and since there are tons of other people who also play violin, you get to make more friends!

cons:

you’re gonna struggle...a lot. like any other instrument, you need to practice as often as you can if you want to get better!

random people might come up and ask you what that mark on your neck is. it’s a violin hickey, lol.

buying a good quality violin (and bow!) can be quite expensive.

if you’re actually serious about violin, buying exercise books, books with pieces, and other sheet music can add up as well.

What's your rating from 1-10? It has really low ratings on Goodreads and I'm a bit skepticsl

I haven’t finished the book, I just started it and I’m only on chapter 5. however, so far I love it. maybe its because of my adhd that I love how fast paced it is that most people are bashing it for. I love how it incorporates some poetry in it and real life shit like panic attacks, substance abuse and suicide.. but if you’re triggered by that, it might not be the book for you. I love the story. I give it a 9 out 10 so far.
