Aaron is a biology tutor, a damn good one at that.
There's a waiting list to get a study session with him because he's also a busy athlete.
Because of this he usually doesn't have weekly appointments with people they mostly just need his help cramming before a test (his speciality)
But there's this one girl who schedules an appointment every week.
Since the second time he helped her he's been seeing her all over campus.
At first he thought it was like when you learn a new word and start hearing it all the time.
Then he thought they must have the same major.
Then he thought she was just trying to pawn him out of his tutor fee.
But then he saw her at a Vixen party and became Worried(tm)
He'd been talking to Katelyn about their lab report when he'd spotted her leaning against a wall in the back of the room.
She didn't have a drink or anything other than her phone which she clutched tightly to her chest as if nervous and waiting for something.
Katelyn said she didn't invite the girl.
Katelyns much more socially active roommate said the same.
No one aaron asked knew how shed gotten into Fox Tower since you had to have an activated key card to enter the elevator or stairs.
Normally aaron would've brushed off her presence as just another fame chaser but this time was different. She'd been too close too often for too long and he was beginning to get very nervous.
"What do I do? I don't want to be mean or anything!" He cried to andrew, who had been talking to Renee and was pissed at being interrupted.
"Kill her." Was his only advice.
"Andrew that was harsh. Aaron don't kill her, just tell her you are not interested and if she doesn't listen break her nose" Renee advice came with a close eyed smile and the odd sense of reassurance it always did.
"Maybe you should just give her a chance!" Nicky laughed
" she doesn't look mean or anything man just be up front and nice about it and she'll totally understand!" Matt said with a grin and a pat on Aaron's shoulder.
"Where is she? Want me to tell her to back off?" Dan demanded
"I can hold her down cap'n!" Allison cheered throwing her arm over Dans shoulders
"Do whatever Andrew said. He knows best" Kevin said off handedly
"Andrew said to kill her"
"Did I stutter?" Kevin said his eyebrow arched and his face serious
His teammates were useless.
The night passed without an incident and other than being paranoid aaron had a great time.
He started to relax after that. If she hadn't acted there then maybe he was twisting the situation in his untrusting paranoid mind. It wouldn't be the first time he misjudged someone's intentions.
She finally made her move three days after the party and a day before her next tutoring session.
Aaron and Kevin were in the library studying for their upcoming midterms when she approached their table.
"Hey you're my tutor right? It's funny I ran into you here. I was just thinking about how I wanted to ask you out for dinner soon. So what do you think?" Her voice was too high, her words too fast to be natural it sounded scripted which made aaron freeze.
"You know who he is. It's not funny actually since you've been following him since September and he's not going out with you because he's my lover and you should skip your tutoring session tomorrow because I'm not letting him near you again." Kevin said calmly and slowly making sure to enunciate properly so he wouldn't be misheard or mistaken.
He punctuated his speech by reaching across the table and slipping his hand into Aaron's.
Aaron had been stunned before but now he was truly shocked. Kevin had just staked a claim he did not have on aaron and instead of being mad or revolted his stomach burst with the feeling of butterfly wings. He didn't even hear what the girl said as she departed. Didn't even watch her leave.
He was staring at their hands so long Kevin grew worried and snapped in front of his face
"Sorry. I knew she made you uncomfortable and I couldn't let you get walked on." Kevin explain sheepishly removing his hand from Aaron's.
"She's going to keep following me until she's sure we weren't lying. Are you prepared for that?" Aaron asked nervously.
"I'd go to hell and back for my family" came Kevin's reply accompanied by a cheeky grin.
they have an..issue with back touches. it’s an understandable issue, one neither of them really press, but neil is running out of suitable canvas space on andrew. he doesn’t say anything as he turns andrew’s hands palm up and traces little fox paws on the hardened skin there until andrew quite purposefully twitches his fingers.
“andrew.” neil goes back to his little fox paws once andrew’s fingers resettle.
another, more purposeful twitch. “andrew.”
“something’s on your mind.”
“i don’t know what you mean.” he scribbles a small ‘yes’ on andrew’s ring finger. it’s a prompt and a promise; andrew pretends to ignore it.
“just say it, neil, or else i’ll destroy all your work in the sink.” he never will, they both know it, but neil’s black ball point pen stills while he weighs the words on his tongue. it’s always intrigued andrew, though he’ll never admit it to anyone other than renee, how neil can weigh his words when they don’t matter but just throw them out to the wind they many would say they do.
his man is confusing and he almost wants to return him. he thinks he would if the confusion wasn’t so fucking interesting.
“you’ve got two seconds.” he prompts when both neil and the pen stay still for a few beats too long. andrew minyard will not be confused for a patient man today.
“can i paint your back, yes or no?”
it’s an odd request – see: the back issue – but one rooted in a trust exercise fundamental to their relationship. andrew knows he can say no, can tell neil to go find matt to play painting guinea pig, but he doesn’t. besides, he wants to see what neil will paint for him. “so long as there’s no fucking fox orange.”
neil smiles, tilting his head mischievously as he stands to grab the paint. “but you look so good in it, andrew.”
ofc, i wrote something along these lines over the weekend, posted and deleted it an hour later, im gonna use that for insp too hope u dont mind
70. “You’re so beautiful.”
Neil Josten pressed down on the stub of his cigarette, impervious to the sear of heat that brushed his knuckles, He held on for a moment, and looked up across the horizon, before flicking the remains across the skyline and over the ledge. He didn’t hesitate before lighting another
The smoke was a comfort. For a while it wasn’t; what would his mother think of Neil Josten, captain and starting striker for the biggest Exy team currently in the media? All Neil expected was running, and he had to stop to remind himself the Butcher was nothing. Nathan Wesninski was dead, and now Neil was sat beneath the sunrise, and he was here to stay.
The scorched smell of gasoline and leather came hand in hand with the pink rays of light. The sunrise was the only comfort he had had when surrounded by that putrid air. It followed him still, so Neil reached for another match to mask the smell.
A rock rattled against the ledge near Neil. He tore his eyes away from the clouds drifting over the sun to watch Andrew Minyard settling himself against his side. Rock’s had been repositioned to hold the roof’s door ajar and Neil hadn’t even registered the noise. The Foxes’ infamous goalkeeper reached over, tenderly pulling the rolled cigarette from Neil’s grasp, and breathed it in. Neil blinked, droplets of rain falling down his face.
“I hadn’t even noticed the rain,” Neil murmured. He glanced across Andrew’s eyes, pulled tight.
“You’re soaked.” He was right. Neil was only in a bedridden t-shirt and grey joggers, and they clung to his frame. The acidic rain had washed out all dimension to the ringlets that surrounded his face, which Andrew studied with intent, his eyebrows closer together. He didn’t ask, but Neil knew what it meant.
He cast his mind back to his thoughts, picking at the threads as they fell away. When the night turned over Neil would replace his surroundings. To become comfortable was to become vulnerable. Vulnerability wasn’t a recognisable feeling to Neil. Before he had the Foxes behind his back, but he still had a power on his heels. Tetsuji Moriyama’s words still hung over his home, but even within the nature of it all, the threat still felt like a promise to Neil. Exy was all he had ever known, but now he had more to know.
“You should be asleep,” Neil replied.
“So should you.” Andrew said. Neil reached over and pulled Andrew’s hand into his own, turning it over. He looked up to face Andrew, but focused on the lines his fingers was tracing. “What are you…?” Neil’s smile tweaked at the edges.
“I’m getting to know you.” He stopped, letting his fingers hover on the surface of the skin of his palm. “Yes or no?”
“Yes.” Andrew’s voice was stuck in a whisper, but his hands relaxed into Neil’s lap, curling around his hold. Neil let his hand rest against Andrew’s, and he dragged his middle finger along the edge of Andrew’s palm, down to the wrist, before rubbing his thumb against Andrew’s.
“You’re beautiful.” Andrew’s ring finger twitched against Neil’s, but otherwise he didn’t reply. Neil’s smile grew, and he looked back up at the orange streaks blending through the dawn. The smell of wasted cigarettes from last night was lingering in Andrew’s clothes, and Neil fell into the embrace.
