but look at that actually meant apology! i mean it’s still very matter of fact for something way above unacceptable, but it’s sincere!!!

plus look at how they both remember it:

i mean they kinda are both right? vriska was obviously in the wrong in many ways but looking at how terezi beat herself up over was there another option, i realized that tavros’ reasons for attacking vriska were a lot less solid than hers

tavros was ‘i suppose you’re bad guy. so i should stop you’ which!! go tavros!! stand up for yourself!! but also what she was going to do now was just go and fight bec noir so,, the not villainous part of her plan. just as catastrophic, of course, but tavros didn’t know that. it was about justice/retaliation. the thing of course is that tavros is owed a lot of retaliation on vriska so....

but it’s still not tavros’ fault - vriska herself recognized that she had plenty of other ways to counter him without killing him. he did go at her with bogus self-esteem, and that's what angered her; that he suddenly here going at her now of all time. (still not his fault. sooner or later he was going to rebel against her and he had a right too. and still didn’t deserve to be killed (though we could ask ourselves if vriska at that point deserved to be killed. like. really? maybe let’s not talk about ‘deserving’ about kids’ life))

but vriska was being a huge bitch and stabbed him through the chest because she was angry and she could.

anyway there’s still a very good exchange coming:

Vriska is precious to him!! and he thinks they’re in love together!! (which i think they kinda are?? for a certain definition of the word?) THIS IS SO CUTE and also terrible AND THIS IS STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOMENTS OF HOMESTUCK

also i love how aggressive they are to each other WHILE HIDING IT FROM VRISKA which is not difficult to do because this is vriska and she is as always much more interested in herself than in what’s happening around her and I LOVE ALL THREE OF THOSE DISASTER CHILDREN (and vriska is of curs the worst of the three tavros and john are usually not utter disaster but john is in an angry phase and tavros has spent too much time around vriska recently he’s caught some bad habits which we know since his discussion wit jade that he can be susceptible too AND ALSO HE ACTUALLY THOUGHT VRISKA HAD SOME KIND OF HONEST SELF CONFIDENCE THING GOING ON POST TAVRISPRITE and it’s so??? tavros can’t recognize genuine self confidence?? because vriska’s is actually all smoke and mirrors but he thought it was the real deal?? and now since he’s validated her worst habits she’s kind of going back to it?? while still occasionally giving him some actual good words?? but in ways that are not actually compliments?? but she IS acting like they’re a team?? and she wants him ‘him especially why else would she bother mindcontrolling him) on her team but if course SHE is the leader and him the underling and so she treats him like crap AND THIS IS A TRAINWRECK oh my god they can do better!!!)

this is amazing i love that those two characters that are generally descried as the more mild and easy to get along with by those who met them

met each other and went NO THIS GUY IS AN ASSHAT AND I DON’T LIKE HIM

actually she pretty much IS she’s just. not acting like it. Because she’s the worst, not all the time, but often, and kinda almost always around tavros (like i have. one or two instances where she was not completely awful)

So yes there are good reasons for john to think they’re not actually together, but tavros did not make it up.

but also!!! he was about to blurt out ‘i can’t believe you two are dating’ to vriska but he thought better of it!! rather than embarrass tavros who he thought had made it up he kept quiet!!

even pissed of john has still some basic decency (well more than basic actually? that’s downright considerate not to expose tavros (who he doesn’t even lik) as someone who pretends vriska is his girlfriend!!!)!!
