[❊] — The usually busy halls of the Overlook had grown silent. With winter soon nestling into the mountainous cleft the opulent hotel was tucked away into, the resort was now closed off to the public. With the threat of storms and dangerous squalls that could render the winding, cliff-edge roads impassable, it only seemed logical. However, someone would be needed to check the pipes and other mechanical aspects that kept the beautiful hotel alive, and Saitou had be more than willing to take on the job. The setting of the hotel promised peace and quiet, and isolation had never been an issue for him. The prospect of being in a prime location for watching the copious snowfalls that usually pelted the region appealed to him, as well.
Casting his gaze around the open lobby, with its gleaming, richly hued marble, a sense of tranquility was already descending upon his mind. Although, Saitou figured, madness could affect a mind anywhere, regardless of how calm and lovely the setting.
Saitou was stirred from his languid musings by the sound of footsteps. Blinking, the blue-eyed man peered towards the source, nodding to his friend as he came into the wide room, each step echoing. The Overlook was too large for one man to tend to alone, and so Saitou’s best friend, Okita Souji had offered to join him on the job. During the harsher months especially, Saitou was certain he would be glad for his help.
“You have found your room?” Saitou asked, turning his full attention upon the other male.
