I hope everyone had a wonderful Persian New Year yesterday. Even if you aren’t Persian or Iranian, the coming of spring is still an exciting time to celebrate, both on land and at sea!
It’s the season of many migrations, like North Atlantic Right Whales (a critically endangered species) and Bowhead whales (who use their big thick bowed heads to break breathing holes through the ice) as well as leatherback turtles (the largest living turtle!), and manatees (some of the OG mermaids) who are finally freed from having to seek refuge in warmer inland waters during the cold late autumn and winter months.
Since it was Norooz, please enjoy the queued up fishies today. And while we shouldn’t keep goldfish cooped up in too-small bowls on the haft-sin (seriously, stop torturing and killing the goldfish just to make a pretty set up) that doesn’t mean that fish isn’t still inherently entwined with Norooz.
