Cirtidiots NPC Series- Quirikett- the Kabutian Paladin/Rogue!
Quirikett was born to a Kabutian settlement far to the north of Stockton, the City of Justice to a pair of kind hearted parents. His mother was a paladin of the Earth Mother and his father a kindly merchant who would barter with the halfling city above. When Quirikett was but three his parents died when their city was assailed by a rampaging herd of Bullette being driven out of their homes by a darker more intelligent power.
This left Quirikett orphaned. The Church of the Earth mother took him in and raised him and by the age of ten, nearing adulthood Quirikett was a fairly accomplished Paladin, capable of summoning the faith around him and battling other initiates of the order. Perhaps a little overconfident a foolhardy, Quirikett decided to strike out into the world to see and spread the boons that the Earth Mother had gifted him, but he was sorely disappointed. He found wide ranging poverty, a gap between classes that his people had never dealt with, a lack of community, violence, abuse, and worse abound, even in the City of Law it was just harder to see, or easier to ignore.
He lived on his own for a number of years his faith in the Earth Mother wavering as his ability to survive the Urban lifestyle of a poor acolyte pushed the boundaries of his moral code to their limits. Eventually, he was found by a human woman just beginning to approach her thirtieth year. Claire Odell
Claire was a kind woman who had opened an orphanage for those on the street with no homes, no parents, a place for the children in the wild to be protected. Quirikett found himself a home under her house and a renewed spark of his faith at the community he found while living with her. And he swore to protect that vestige of hope. He swore to protect those that he could.
This led to Quirikett ‘s introduction to the Haven Guard. Travellers covered in powerful magic items who were being a little too carefree with their things provided Quirikett the opportunity to pursue justice. He stole a quiver full of magical arrows from the Fletchling Summoner Griff and took off to get a vantage on the main market square of the city. When he saw the man, a middle aged drunk who Quirikett had known to sexually abuse some of the orphans on the streets he pulled back the magic arrow and shot true, the man exploding in the street.
While the Haven Guard went north on a job for the Duke of Stockton the search party in the city redoubled their efforts to find the thief. Quirikett had been as careful as he could but a witness he hadn’t accounted for had reported him to the law bringers and in his attempt to escape he was shot dead by the guards just as the Shattering occurred. The break between gods and the material plane shattering the the planet of Tariur into many landmasses and swirling seas. Amidst the chaos his body became just another taken in to be identified later.
While his spirit rested and took in it’s new surroundings in the after life, a beautiful village at twilight, Quirikett was joined by Griff the summoner who had been slain in the night by assassins, and feeling himself compelled to assist the man he had robbed the pair set off on a journey through the Planes to attempt to return to the material world and their bodies.
Eventually the paid came face to face with Death, Mannimarco the god of Limbo and the keeper of souls, striking a bargain with him he allowed their souls to be resurrected. Griff now returned to his body informed his party that they had to find the young kabutian and they set off to see the mass of collected bodies in the wake of the tremendous tragedy of the shattering.
And there, among the bodies, his carapace now a brilliant, radiant white trimmed in darkness they saw Quirikett ensuring that his armour and daggers were in place singing to himself a hym to the Earth Mother.
