Critidiots NPC Series- Marie Gelp, the Goblin Ranger.
Marie was born to the Twin Peaks mountain, the peaks of the beginning and end, well after the horrible conditions of her people had already been solved by the pair of human adventurers who became the leader of her people. Freed of their tyrannical Primal Orc overlords they were able to grow in poverty but freedom alongside the other goblins and the child who was being raised to lead them; Paddock Gruff the Oread.
Marie was the first child to a pair of parents who were little more than starving farmers and the eldest of seven siblings. She grew up in the shadow of Paddock the stern, charismatic youth taking the oldest of the goblin families and helping teach them to fight and training them to make good defenders one day. She took to the bow and the wild mountains where she was raised becoming a skilled archer and master scout. It was not long before the 14 year old goblin had earned herself a position in Paddock’s inner council and of importance with the clan.
Having lost four of her siblings to starvation and disease over the years Marie has always hoped for a way to help those who survive. She is vicious in guarding those that she considers family. During the first year of the Critidiots travels she met and fell in love with the human barbarian Aybara. Who like her shares a strong hate for orcs, his clan having been wiped out by an orc raiding party in his youth.
They shared a night of passion together which eventually led to the birth of their four children (two boys, two girls), she lives in the City of Couthshou now instead of the mountain ranges, raising her children and teaching them how to fight and survive. She has become close friends with the wife of Aybara’s travelling companion, Zygllplyx the Triton Shaman/druid. They often spend their time together so their children can play and explore new places together.
She often heads up into the mountains to visit Paddock and her family, taking the children along so they can learn the wilds of their homeland just as she did. It has put her in a position where she has been able to share much medicine and money with her kin and the quality of life in the mountains have improved greatly since her joining with the barbarian. She works as a Fletcher in the city when the children as asleep and as a freelance trainer who is often hired to help the scouts practice their archery skills.
