an unranked person is a person that the narcissist does not place in their hierarchy at all. it is not the same as an Equal Person (EP), who is placed as equal to the narcissist in their hierarchy. an UNRP is not considered equal, lesser than, or better than, the pwNPD does not process their UNRP within their hierarchy at all.
an UNRP relationship is not inherently positive, negative, or neutral. a few common signs include:
being less competitive with the person, or not competing with them on anything at all
being more comfortable opening up to the person or showing them your true self, because you neither fear disappointing them nor consider them unworthy of your time
enjoying talking to them, but feeling fine or mostly fine if they don't have the time/energy/capacity to talk to you
confusion surrounding how you feel about the person
of course, these are not the only possible traits of a UNRP relationship, i just wanted to provide a handful of examples to give folks a better idea of what this type of relationship could look like. if you don't relate to these traits it does not mean you cannot use this term.
an UNRP relationship can include other PD-specific dynamics, such as favorite person (FP), attention person (ATP), safe person (SP), and anything else. the only dynamics it cannot coexist with are ones which involve a placement in an NPD hierarchy, such as equal person (EP), chosen person (CHP), devalued person (DEVP), etc.
as with all other PD-specific dynamics, it is possible to have more than one UNRP.
i don't believe in gatekeeping terminology, especially not terminology designed to aid disabled/neurodivergent people in describing their experiences. anyone is more than welcome to use this term, reblog this post, or archive this term regardless of their political or discourse stances. i give blanket permission for this term to be added to wikis and other archives, all i ask is that this post is linked somewhere on the page for it.
