NROC Project News
A beta version of the Beginning Algebra module from NROC'sDevelopmental Math—An Open Program is now available for review. This new curriculum integrates multiple modes of learning to open the door to mathematical reasoning and critical thinking for a broad range of learners. The learning object architecture allows institutions, instructors and students to adapt the content to different program and learner requirements. Simply log on to NROCmath.org and click “View Course Now!”, or use this link. After submitting a brief form, you will receive access credentials for the new module.
Multi-media modules from Algebra 1–An Open Course are now ready for live classroom sharing at New.HippoCampus.org. Users are encouraged to explore the new content collections from NROC, PhET, and Khan Academy. Anyone interested in learning more about the New HippoCampus can view last month’s webinar HERE, or a recent Connected PD postHERE.
The third wave of NGLC grants launched this month focuses on the development of new models of blended learning, with a request for proposals at both the secondary and postsecondary levels. These include "Breakthrough School Models for College Readiness", which prioritizes personalized, mastery-based, blended learning models, and "Breakthrough Models for College Completion", which prioirtizes innovative delivery models that generate high student outcomes at affordable cost. There are two steps to the selection process. The first is an initial application submission which will be accepted on a rolling basis untilJune 8, 2012. From these first applications, selected finalists will be asked to submit a more detailed final application. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in submitting your proposal with NROC as a content or distribution partner.
The October 7th First Friday event – “DIY & Share: Social Authoring OER” – featured guests Emily Morrison ofCalShakes.org, an ISKME fellow, and Emily Puckett Rodgers from the Open.Michigan Project. You can find the Live Twitter Chat archive HERE.
PD professionals and teachers are invited to join us for the next First Friday, November 4th at 9 AM PST, with special guest Howard Rheingold. We’ll be focusing on Teacher Professional Development and Social Media. You can find details for how to participate HERE on the Connected PD blog.
Educators interested in using Geogebra for math instruction are invited to attend a special Connected PD webinar on November 3rd. Details will be posted to the NROC Network LinkedIn group towards the end of October.

The National Repository of Online Courses is a non-profit effort to offer a growing library of high-quality online course content appropriate for both secondary and higher education learners. NROC courses are contributed by developers from leading academic institutions across the United States. All courses are evaluated to ensure they meet high standards of scholarship, instructional value, and presentational impact. NROC courses are designed to cover the breadth and depth of topics based on generally accepted national curricula. Learning objects that comprise the NROC courses are distributed free-of-charge to individual students and teachers at HippoCampus.org. Organizations wishing to use NROC content to support broader institutional efforts are invited to become members of the NROC Network. Contact [email protected] to learn more about additional resources and services available to sustaining members of the Network.
