Some sadomasochist uploaded the entirety of Now and Then, Here and There to Youtube in English.
TIME TO RELIVE THE MOST DEPRESSING ANIME EVER MADE
Because ten billion years time is so fragile, so ephemeral, it arouses such a bittersweet, almost heartbreaking fondness.
Beginning quote of each episode, Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku ("Now and Then, Here and There")
my take on this
I spoiled the series for myself because the episodes weren't as easily accessible back then (my dumbass didn't know about piracy), so I just watched clips and read TV tropes.
Dude, Nabuca deserved better, along with many other characters. He fucked up here and there (pun intended), but at the end of the day, he was just a kid who wanted to go back home like the others :(
It would've been interesting if we saw a series from the side character's POV. Most of these series tend to to have the main protagonist (isekai lalala) being a newcomer to the dystopian world. It's probably not interesting to others if the show was about a boy who grew up like this, never questioning anything until a dumbass side character tries to be main character by saving everyone. (Jk I liked Shu's character).
Mf get me a unicycle since I'm talking to myself, making memes, and whatnot for this fandom 😞
About Sara...
CW: Mentions of SA.
One issue I had with the watchers (no, not even FANDOM, we are that small!) was regarding Sara.
I don't know what the series was trying to imply concerning Sara's baby. I always had a theory that the baby was Kazam's for some reason (ex. he wanted her to run away with him, he "fell in love" with her, he was the only soldier who was "kind" to her, even though I have a suspicion he raped her too).
Either she didn't want to see Kazam because he reminded her of the place that broke her down, or because he raped her.
Hellywood is also different from our world and morals. It's like what my teacher told us about how women were treated as prizes for Greek warriors in "The Iliad." We can't judge them per se, since we have very different views on things compared to humans back then, but it would be questionable to anyone nowadays.
This is where I think it's different: Sara isn't from that world. She knows what the soldiers have been doing to her is wrong, and the show makes sure we treat it as something horrible, too. This is why I dislike people who say Sara was annoying because she complained a lot when she had a perfectly good reason to do so.
Imagine being a young teen who was suddenly brought to another world with no explanation and was then forced into sex slavery, and separated from your home and family.
It irks me when I see people saying that Kazam and Sara should've gotten together or something like that. She's clearly a teen, while he's a grown man. I've seen someone discussing how Sara was just an annoying complainer throughout the whole series and literally said that the guy from episode 6 (iirc correctly) who was literally about to rape her was being "nice" because he offered her some of the water, and she just went straight to kill him. I was speechless hearing that because what the hell?
Did I make an account dedicated specifically for Ima Soko ni Iru Boku? Yes.
If only you knew the number of fanfics I had for this show as a 6th grader. Now, I can't write shit!! 😭
Honestly, I think the only ideas I have for NTHT are one shots so...
