Southeastern Pennsylvania, Part One
Here is an image I made while in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, area back in the spring of 2012. (I had a show of my work at the Phillips Museum of Art, Franklin & Marshall College.) Being that close to Three Mile Island, I had to venture up to see that infamous locale. An incident occurred there while I was in high school, and memories from that developmental stage seem to be very strong ones.
The general location is southeast of Harrisburg, with Three Mile Island being located in the Susquehanna River. An observation building can be found across River Road, along with an interpretive historical marker. Thirty-three years earlier, almost to the day of when this image was made, the United States experienced its worst nuclear accident with a partial meltdown of one of the two reactors. Since then, it’s faded in comparison with disasters at Chernobyl, in 1986, and Fukushima, in 2011.
