Following the success of their animated film Tickled Pink, Nudinits have released a book. The cover states “Includes 20 knitting patterns” but I wouldn’t get your hopes up for this being a knitting book.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a bad book. It just isn’t a knitting book, more of a cheeky Christmas gift book which also happens to contain a few knitting patterns (and no index so you can easily find them)
It’s a nice hardback book with good clear photos of the village of Woolly Bush and its inhabitants, as well as descriptions of them and a few saucy jokes.
From a knitters point of view I was disappointed with the patterns offered, and not just because I’d count them as 14 patterns, not 20. The patterns for both male and female dolls (Bernard and Barbara) are fine, but other items such as Barnard’s scarf (a small strip of K1, P1 rib), a marrow (small tube) and melons (small slightly ovoid balls) barely count as patterns IMO.
The patterns included are:
Bernard’s scarf, watch, socks and sandals
Garden gnome with a fishing rod
Marrow, Melons and Cactus
Tea set consisting of sugar bowl, sugar, tea cup, saucer, cake plate, teapot and fondant fancy cake (note that each item counts as 1 in the ‘20 pattern’ count)
Boobie bushes (a round bush with a pink flower on top)
If you go to the Nudinits website you can find further patterns for sale, but there are only three of them - a pair of slippers, bees and a beehive.
Overall view: It looks good, but I want to like it more than I actually do.
If I hadn’t picked up a slightly damaged copy for half the cover price I’d be very disappointed, as it is it’s ok.
