You stopped in your tracks, staring in confusion at your couch where your boyfriend was lying, seemingly sound asleep. While Junmyeon did have the keys to your apartment he had never used them before without asking first. And he was supposed to be away for work for at least another two days so you had not expected to find him on your couch.
As you walked closer, his eyes slowly opened and he blinked sleepily up at you. You felt your heart clench at the sight of the dark circles under his eyes. He looked terrible.
“Babe,” you whispered, kneeling down next to him. He sighed contently as you ran your fingers through his hair. “What are you doing here? You’re supposed to be in Seoul the whole week, aren’t you?”
“I’m hiding,” he mumbled. He was quiet for a while and you let him gather his thoughts, gently combing through his hair to let him know you were there. It was rare you got to see him like this. Just as you had feared, his eyes started tearing up.
“I haven’t slept in four days…” he said, voice raw from trying not to cry. “I’m so tired. I want to be strong for the boys but…” His voice broke and he sniffled. “I don’t know what to do. I’m so tired.”
“Oh babe.” You felt like crying yourself and although it was a bit of an awkward angle with you on the floor and him lying on the couch, you pulled him close so he could rest his head in the crook of your neck. “You work too hard.”
He sniffled again, hugging you tightly as his shoulders shook. You knew he hated people seeing him cry. He never let anyone see him break, especially not his members. He felt responsible for keeping them all happy and didn’t want to burden them with his own troubles. Though you knew the boys would do anything for Junmyeon if he just let them, you also knew Junmyeon was too proud to accept it.
“I’m here,” you mumbled, kissing his forehead. “Try and get some sleep. I’ll stay right here.”
He nodded into your neck, breath hitching every now and then as he tried to stop crying. It didn’t take long for Junmyeon’s breathing to slow and his grip to relax around you as he slowly fell asleep.
Your legs were hurting from sitting on the floor like that, but there was no way you were moving. Junmyeon looked so peaceful while sleeping. You felt your eyes tear up as you watched him sleep, feeling helpless. You hated seeing him like this but there was nothing you could do but give him your love and support.
But you would definitely have a word with the boys and make them promise to report back to you whenever they felt like Junmyeon was going over the edge so you could be prepared. They would do anything for him and hopefully you could all prevent something like this from happening again.
For now though, Junmyeon needed sleep and you were not going to move a muscle until he woke up.
