🕯️spiritual veiling🕯️
Veiling (or head covering) is a spiritual practice that is found within nearly all world religions! Veiling is the act of covering ones head, partially or fully, with an article of clothing or hanging cloth. The type of veil or head covering varies from faith to faith. Also, everyone has different reasons for veiling. In general, it is a sign of respect to ones deities, to the self, and to the sacredness of the body. Vestal Priestesses of Vesta veiled before their goddess, Yoruba initiates cover their head for spiritual protection, Catholic Nuns veil for spiritual distinction and modesty, etc. Historically, women are more likely to practice veiling but there are many practices where men are also called to cover their heads. Veiling is for anyone and everyone who feels called to practice! 💐🌹
✨ BENEFITS OF VEILING ✨
(Note, this is an amalgamation of different reasons why people veil. Not everyone shares these same benefits or beliefs. This is a generalization!)
DIVINE DEVOTION
The crown of the head is, in many practices, believed to be the center of divine communication. It is the part of our body that is closest to divinity. As a result, many people veil in order to respect the sacredness of this connection. It’s almost as if placing a crown upon our head to symbolize our pure connection with our gods. It can also be a sign of humility and humbleness before divine. Veiling for divine devotion is often worn during rituals or worship but may not be worn for everyday use (this varies). This practice of veiling results in a closer, sanctified bond with our divinity.
SPIRITUAL PROTECTION
Similar to the last point, the head is believed to be sacred. If the head is not protected, the rest of the body may suffer. Emotional empaths may be called to veiling out of a desire to protect their energy from the world around them. Full-body veils can also be worn for this purpose. It offers comfort, peace, and a sense of spiritual protection!
DISTINCTION
For many people, veiling is a way of “wearing their faith”. A clear religious habit (form of clothing) sets you apart from the rest of the world. Not in the sense that you are higher or holier than the world but in the sense that your life is lived in devotion. It is a reminder of the covenant you have made within your spiritual path. It makes your faith visible and tangible. My Muslim sisters often express that wearing their hijab creates a sense of unification and connectedness.
EMPOWERMENT
I’ve noticed a lot of people, especially women, express how empowered they feel when they’re wearing their veils. It can often garner a sense of respect and reverence. Sadly there are spaces where veiling (especially for muslim women) is met with judgement but, even when faced with criticism, it is an empowering practice. It forces the world to view us as more than bodies to be objectified. It adds a sense privacy that demands respect.
SELF AWARENESS
Wearing a veil is a reminder to the world but also to ourselves. When we wear a veil, we are wearing the tradition of our respective beliefs. It is a physical symbol that aligns us with our spiritual practice and reminds us of why we do what we do. I find that I am much more aware of my actions when I am veiling (for rituals and for everyday wear). There’s a sense of responsibility that comes with wearing a veil. It’s highly symbolic and we have to respect its importance.
A BLESSING
For many, it is a reminder that we are forever blessed, protected, and empowered by our spiritual practice! It’s like taking up a mantle of power. For some it’s out of modestly but, for most, it’s an outward sign of the blessed relationship that we have with our respective spiritual paths! ✨✨✨✨ Thank you for stopping by! My askbox is always open for anyone who wants to learn more! If you are someone who veils, I would love to hear your reasons and experiences. I feel like there are so many misunderstandings about the purpose of veiling and I hope this post could shed some light! 💐 🌷 🌹 P.S anyone can veil, as it’s a part of pretty much every culture, but be mindful of the style of veil you choose! There are some styles that are sacred and should not be used unless you are a part of that religion/tradition. Do your research.
The Catalan activist and priest Pere Casaldàliga, known as "the people's priest", died today (8th August 2020) at 92 years old in Brazil.
He was one of the pioneers of the Liberation Theology, the Christian theology that emphasizes the importance of the political liberation of the oppressed and working class people. One of the concepts he wrote about the concept of "social sin", sins that include imperialism, capitalism, and all forms of oppression. He defended that humans can sin, but the individual sins happen inside the systems that lead to them.
Over 50 years ago, he was sent on a mission to Brazil. There he met the indigenous people of the Amazon and decided to spend the rest of his life fighting together with them for their rights. He founded social organization that still nowadays are among the most important organizations in the indigenous rights movements in South America, including the Landless Workers' Movement (Movimento dos Trebalhadores Rurais Sem Terra), the Pastoral of the Land, and the Indigenist Missionary Council (Conselho Indigenista Missionário).
He received numerous awards from the indigenous people of Brazil, the government of Brazil and the government of Catalonia for his work.
Casaldàliga risked his life in this defense of indigenous rights. He was threatened to death and suffered various attempts of assassination for pointing at the latifundists of Mato Grosso as the ones who cause the misery of the indigenous people when they who appropriate the indigenous lands, expel the indigenous population, and treat their workers like slaves.
He never came back to his homeland Catalonia, but he said that the deeper understanding of the indigenous people of Brazil also gave him a deeper understanding of himself as Catalan and how to escape the cultural imperialist mindset. He said "the indigenous cause made me more Catalan. The prohibited tribes helped me find my own always mistreated tribe." (Remember that at the time the Catalan language and culture were illegal and persecuted by the Francoist fascist dictatorship).
Pere Casaldàliga had said "I am me and my causes, and my causes are worth more than my life." We will remember both. The ex-president of Brazil Lula da Silva has lamented his death and said that "he will be very needed".
Resquiescat in pace. Descansi en pau.
If you would like to learn more about Pere Casaldàliga, you can read his works (he published over 50 books, including both prose and poetry, which can all be accessed for free on the internet), read the novel that explains his life Descalç sobre la terra vermella by Francesc Escribano, or watch the movie of the same title.

For all you worriers, over thinkers and doubters. Remember: Matthew 6:25-27 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?
Cinderella (1950)
This. This moment is the most important in the movie. This is when the Prince falls for her - he was infatuated before but he clearly thought that the reason Cinderella was around him was because he was the Prince, but when he discovered she has no clue, he realised that she stayed and talked and spent the whole night with him because she likes who he was as a person - not his title. Not only that but he liked her; we don’t know what they talked about, but we can imagine it must have been interesting and nice to last a whole night so we know she just have said something that made him want to stay around her too. That’s why he wanted to find her, not cause she was pretty (I mean the guy couldn’t even remember her face and went off a shoe for God’s sake - which gives me a theory that the Prince has Prosopagnosia AKA face blindness) but because she liked him not his title, and he liked whoever she was, rich or poor.
The prince has face blindness and dumbass disease ok? He’s trying his best!

Me looking for articles to cite in my paper that I totally procrastinated on
And that should be immediately reported to HR. (And hopefully they do something)
As someone on Facebook said, “This is why they pester you to smile. To them, a smile is consent.”
Dudes really be out here unironically hating women
How dare this woman have a beautiful and symmetrical face? How dare she make him horny on PURPOSE with that gray T-shirt? What a fucking creep. I would have started screaming at him because I would be thinking of literally everything he had ever said to me or any female coworker and reported that shit to HR.
