"Number 28" 1950 enamel on canvas by Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) at @metmuseum the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Written near the painting: From April to December 1936, Pollock participated in a workshop organized by David Alfaro Siqueiros called the Laboratory of Modern Techniques in Art, where he first encountered dripped and poured paint. He returned to the technique in his "allover" paintings of 1947-50 widely considered his greatest achievement. Pollock began his abstractions by drawing figures, which were subsequently hidden beneath a dense web of paint. The black of this canvas shows traces of drawing in black and yellow no longer visible on the surface, having been obscured by aluminum, gray, and olive-green paint enlivened with blue, pink, and yellow. Pollock finished the work with new painting in white and black, which he knitted to the middle layer with gray and white. #pollock #jacksonpollock #jacksonpollockweek #themet #themetropolitanmuseumofart #enameloncanvas #number28 #allover #abstractart #abstractexpressionism #abstractpainting #actionpainting (at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
