in the western numbering system 1 million is written as 1,000,000
they’re the same number, just written differently. and yet i lose all comprehension when i see it written the western way 😭
seximal (usually called senary and sometimes called heximal) is what I call the base six numbering system, which as we all know is the sexiest numbering system, hence the name. however, as far as I can tell, nobody’s ever made a full scale dozenal style system for using it in english, which is a shame because it’s objectively the best positional notation based numbering system out there.

okay, so here’s my idea. numbers up to twelve can keep their normal english names. you just gotta be able to look at <12> and think “eight”. after twelve, instead of those -teen numbers, you just count “twelve one, twelve two, twelve three, twelve four, twelve five”. this is pretty intuitive I think. next is 30 (eighteen), which is where we start needing to make up some words.
so, as far as I’m aware, there’s only been one proposed system for using seximal in english, and it suggests adapting the words for multiples of ten and then replacing -ty with -hy (replacing the h when it ends up making consonant clusters), in reference to “hex”: “hex, twenny, thirhy, forhy, fiffy”. I have a couple of problems with this. first, “twenny” sounds exactly like how I say “twenty”. second, there’s no reason to make a new word for six! we already have the word six and it works just fine! anyway, I bring this up because my suggestion is pretty similar but less dumb: “six, twelve, thirsy, foursy, fifsy”. now, 30 sounds an awful lot like “thirsty”, but at least it won’t be confused with a completely unrelated decimal number.
after fifsy five is six squared, which I’m calling “nif”, a word loaned from ndom, one of the only natlangs that uses seximal. hey, let’s count to nif so we can get a good feel for this thing.
yeah, that feels about right. okay, so what about the larger powers of six? certainly we can’t stop here. so, I think it makes sense to have six times nif just be called “six nif”, and then to do everything else with the powers of 1 0000. that way, everything’s grouped into sets of four digits, and those four digit groups are split into pairs of two digits each. now, what should those powers of 1 0000 be called? here’s my very good idea:

1 0000 0000 “biexian”
1 0000 0000 0000 “triexian”
1 0000 0000 0000 0000 “quadexian”
1 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 “pentexian”
