Avery stares at the screens, violently blinking away tears.

And, two hours away, Derek stares back at the screen. His eyes burn and water. He knows Avery isn’t lying and he hates it. It makes his stomach churn. He thinks of vomiting on his keyboard, unable to move away or clean it (or himself) up.

Derek takes a deep breath and his fingers move on his keyboard once more.

Legs shakes his head, running a hand over his hair. He drops the note haphazardly onto the table, ignoring the shaking in his hands, the tightness in his chest.

“What are you doing?” A voice comes from behind him, low and gravely. Legs breathes out a swear as he turns around, coming face to face with Owen.

“I didn’t-“ Legs voice comes out panicked, he takes a deep breath and tries again. “I didn’t know what they were.”
