Are you ready for Númetober?!

Let's celebrate the Land of Gift and its people this coming month ⛵️🌊💙

Lol, I've been inspired by similar efforts, thought I'd make one to give my favorite fictional land more love, the love it deserves imho! 🌊⛵️🐴⚔️🌿💍✨️

I'll be starting Oct 1 and would love for you to start with me! I'll be posting here, IG, X, and Bluesky, but post wherever works for you 💙

If you're thinking of participating, I encourage you to start thinking about your selections and reaching out to artists and other creators to ask for permission to repost their work (that's just good etiquette and respectful to creators who work hard on what they do) 🙂‍↕️🙏🏻

Númetober Day 28: Númenor Hot Take

So this is about the line of Silmariën, who really should have been the rulers of Númenor.

So Third Ruler of Númenor was Tar-Amandil. His son was Tar-Elendil. His eldest was Silmariën, a daughter, who, because at that point Númenor practiced agnatic primogeniture, did NOT inherit, instead was packed off to Andúnië to marry this guy Elatan, and from their line came the Lords of Andúnië... ...whose last 2 lords were...ready for this? Yes, Amandil and Elendil. And in their time the Rulers of Númenor really came off the rails and their Bad Decisions, that started with Tar-Aldarion, culminated in the spectacular usurpation of Pharazon and the rise of Sauron and eventually, the Fall. My hot take is that those bookend- Amandils and Elendils really marked the true rulership being passed to the distaff line, and possibly even with some nudge from the Valar. After all, Amandil fulfilled the role of sacred king when he basically took up the petitioner role the kings abdicated when they no longer performed their duties on the Meneltarma. He sailed to Aman to ask forgiveness knowing he had no chance for coming back, but offering himself the way their ancestor Eärendil did. (yes, there will be a paper on this if I have the time to write it)

31 Days of Numenor; Favorite Numenorean: Tar-Ancalime

of course, i made this blog because of my love for Numenor and the Numenoreans in general, but it was reading The Mariner's Wife tale in the Unfinished Tales that made me interested in Numenor in the first place. The tale made the Numenoreans' everyday life incredibly vivid and interesting, and we delved into the rich, fascinating personalities of Aldarion and Erendis, probably the most messed up marriage in the whole Middle Earth. and who could be born out of such a marriage, if not Tar-Ancalime? bitter and stern, and yet, a very fascinating woman that, for all her life, sink her roots deep and refused to bend, exactly as her mother said.

Day 3: I love everything about trop Numenor!

Númetober Day 28: Numebros moment for Valandil

Yes, this one. While I'm absolutely gutted that he had been killed, it was one of those painfully necessary moments to underscore how Isildur is losing his childhood and growing up. First he loses the Sea Cadetship, then Ontamo and thus his belief in Númenor being invincible, then he sees Middle-earth's vulnerability and the plight of the Southland and its people; then he sees how his homeland changes from what he knew as a child to the expansionist power people of Middle-earth already hinted at... and, while unknown to him, he also loses his sister to the careful manipulations of Pharazôn, and his other best friend is killed by Pharazôn's son while Valandil is stepping up in a heroic but misguided attempt to stand up to the Kingsmen to protect the Faithful.

Others looking at this scene probably hinted at the way Elendil basically loses an adopted son here, and cradles Valandil the way he never had the chance to do with Isildur whom he believes dead. While it's a gut punch and a crucial moment to isolate Elendil even more towards his destiny, I wanted also to highlight how this is a moment for Isil as well.

Father and son equally devastated by the loss of a good man in the truest sense of the word.

Númetober Day 26: TRoP scene you wished we'd gotten in S1 or S2

I really, really wish we'd have gotten that scene they filmed but cut (so we can have snake-milking I guess /sarcasm)... between Valandil and Earien in Armenelos, where they just walk and talk and there is no animosity yet, just two young people trying to make sense of things and... ...my heart...

I think it would be lovely if we got ANY kind of reaction to the memory of that when Earien learns what happened to Valandil. because I keep hoping she'll learn about it, eventually.

Númetober Day 7: Favorite Númenor quote (TRoP)

Eärien: You are walking a treacherous path. Elendil: And yours is made of seawater. Take care to keep your feet beneath you, it’s a long way to the bottom.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – S02E05 – Halls of Stone

--this one is powerful to me, because it has the weight of prophecy behind it. Eärien correctly predicts Elendil is no longer loyal to the Crown as it is, after the usurpation. And Elendil senses, perhaps, where Eärien's path leads her. The scene is a clear break not just in their relationship, but between King's Men and Faithful. (as a side note: I loved how they emphasized, finally, the Elendil the Tall moniker here; about darn time)
