Have a little snippet from another niche endeavor, this time another Amandil/Mairon WIP (thanks to one of those conversations with @lvsifer 🖤).

“Do you not wish to ask me for my name, Amandil?” Amandil’s blood runs cold. He grips the armrest of his chair. Dread tears sweat from his pores. Amandil stands, moves back, wants to turn around, can't. Cartilage and bones crack as they rearrange themselves. Flesh flows and forms anew. Skin sags, ripples, then pulls tight again over a new skull. Hair, now coloured like the autumn sun, still slightly wet, comes to cover broader shoulders.  Amandil shivers. Wants to retch. Only let in who you must. He licks olive brine from his fingers, from his now sharp nails, then smiles a bright summer smile at Amandil.  The king’s beastly whore is in his house. “Good evening, ill-fated lord of the Faithful.” Amandil’s breaths come quick and flat, eyes wide. “Begone, sorcerer,” he breathes.  “You know my name, Amandil.” “Your name shall soil my tongue nevermore.” “Mh.” The wizard-witch smiles, then locks eyes with Amandil, venomous eyes under long lashes.

This will be my very last post.

For the sake of Númenor, I have to try and appeal to the Valar, just as Eärendil did back in the First Age. If I fail to return, I want all of my followers to pack up and prepare to leave. It's only a matter of time before this island comes to ruin.

Before I leave, I must spread the truth about the king. Though it pains me to do this, I cannot stand by and let his cruelty pass anymore. Here's the truth about Ar-Pharazôn, King of Númenor.

Okay, anyone else seriously angry about this new temple that the king's building right now???

Before anyone yells at me, I'm not a Faithful, but I'm not one of the King's Men. I'm just sick of the king's overspending on stupid projects and his obsession with becoming immortal.

There are food shortages in the countryside! People are starving to death and all the king cares about is building this temple! But all these nobles care about is immortality, and I'm just so tired of it all.

Oh, and if you come at me about how I should be blaming the Valar or worshiping Melkor, I will block you.

I say this as someone whose sister was sacrificed by the King's Men. I know we all suffered, but not all of those people were King's Men!

We should never celebrate innocent people dying, or we're no better than Ar-Pharazôn and Sauron.

We finally arrived in Middle-earth. It was a rough journey, but we're all safe, if not a little tired.

My brother, wife, and son are safe and sound. However, we got separated from our father's ship thanks to the waves. Don't know what we're gonna do, but for now, I'm gonna take some time to rest and grieve for my home.

i would love it if amandil showed up in season 3 but there's also a possibility that they'll write him out and divide his plotlines between the rest of elendil's family to avoid over-populating the númenor storyline and give their pre-existing characters more to do.

and because i'm physically incapable of númenorposting without making it about eärien: what if they give his role as pharazôn's advisor to eärien?

in the akallabêth it's him that finds out sauron is urging pharazôn to chop down the white tree and tells his family about it, which leads isildur to steal the fruit. i think eärien will remain superficially loyal to pharazôn and *extremely* anti-valar but she lacks the will to hurt her family and will put herself in danger trying to save them, which could set her up to send warnings to them on rómenna when pharazôn is planning a raid or something (similar to her saving elendil in s2, like, three times. albeit she failed the second time before míriel stepped in)

i've also seen a lot of theories that she will design the temple of melkor and then become one of the sacrifices, which is beautifully horrifying and i like the metaphor in HER for númenor literally creating their own destruction. given that pharazôn finally chops down the tree and uses its wood for kindling the first sacrificial pyre AND was known for selecting victims from the faithful, this theory could slot into place by having him burn eärien as punishment for isildur's theft.

Númetober Day 28: Númenor Hot Take

So this is about the line of Silmariën, who really should have been the rulers of Númenor.

So Third Ruler of Númenor was Tar-Amandil. His son was Tar-Elendil. His eldest was Silmariën, a daughter, who, because at that point Númenor practiced agnatic primogeniture, did NOT inherit, instead was packed off to Andúnië to marry this guy Elatan, and from their line came the Lords of Andúnië... ...whose last 2 lords were...ready for this? Yes, Amandil and Elendil. And in their time the Rulers of Númenor really came off the rails and their Bad Decisions, that started with Tar-Aldarion, culminated in the spectacular usurpation of Pharazon and the rise of Sauron and eventually, the Fall. My hot take is that those bookend- Amandils and Elendils really marked the true rulership being passed to the distaff line, and possibly even with some nudge from the Valar. After all, Amandil fulfilled the role of sacred king when he basically took up the petitioner role the kings abdicated when they no longer performed their duties on the Meneltarma. He sailed to Aman to ask forgiveness knowing he had no chance for coming back, but offering himself the way their ancestor Eärendil did. (yes, there will be a paper on this if I have the time to write it)
