THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER costume appreciation: ✦ EÄRIEN'S WARDROBE ✦ Costume design by Kate Hawley & Luca Mosca
A husband or a child can be replaced, but who can grow me a new brother?
A round of applause for Númenor fashion please
It is hardly mercy to ask a man to set his integrity aflame.

Sorry folk! I need to vent for a bit!
I will never understand the double standards in approaching characters. And I'm not talking about the whole 'I hate this character for no particular reason, and I wish them dead'. This I can get behind. This I fucking understand.
It's everything else that eludes me. And it's not even about favs. It's about the reasons behind the hate some characters get, sometimes made out of nowhere (Neal, I will never forget nor forgive).
Take trop.
I have read thousands and thousands of words on how Sauron is a complex character, he was a victim, he is doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, he wants to be loved, he is like this because Galadriel would not help him redeem himself, etc...
I love Sauron, but I don't agree with any of these takes. And it's fair. They don't bother me (besides the last one, that one enrages me). And then I read posts about Kemen. He is irredeemable, he is the worst, I want him dead... And again, fair enough. But we're still talking about a young man who grew up without a mother and with an abusive father. "He killed Valandil" and Sauron killed Celebrimbor and will kill Gil-galad and Elendil and still you write poems over his sorry ass. Why?
And what about Eärien?
For months, I had to read the ramblings of deranged persons who claimed the show to be misogynistic because the writers were not bold enough to let Galadriel fuck the villain. Hell, some fans were screaming against Elrond because he was mean to Gal for two eps. Two eps, after she fucked up big time.
But you don't see anything wrong with Eärien's storyline (it's on purpose, imo)? There is a young woman surrounded by men who ignore her or manipulate her. Men who demand her obedience and get mad when she dares to ask 'why?' Where is your righteous hate? Where is the 'we should talk about how misogynistic the show is when it comes to Eärien' rant?
Suddenly, she is the bad guy?
