Easter From Nuralagus rex
May I request a paleolagus.
Lagomorphs don't get enough prehistoric love (except maybe nuralagus)
Got em!!
I figured I’d also share my other two lagomorphs, Gomphos and Nuralagus but Palaeolagus is my favorite of the bunch!!
(I’ve also primarily seen it spelled with an additional a in the mix but that might be a regional thing? I’ll have a look around!)
today's daily is: the nuralagus! (nuralagus rex)
( requested by anon :] )

Remember Big Chungus? The Bugs Bunny adjacent meme that existed for a hot minute during the early Oligocene? Paleontology Coproliteposting remembers.
Okay, the last one wasn't from Paleontology Coproliteposting, but it's still a dinosaur so I'd argue it counts.
Christmas present for my dad- A drawing of Nuralagus Rex. I based this drawing off of a photo of an Amami rabbit from animalinfo.org.
N. Rex lived on the island of Menorca in the Mediterranean during the Pliocene. Having few or no predators, and being confined to an island, n. Rex grew to be an approximate 12 kg, making it the largest lagomorph. (The order that includes rabbits and hares). N. Rex’s environmental conditions also resulted in a short, stiff spine, making it unable the jump like other members of the order. On top of that, they had limited vision and hearing.
I wanted to draw a nuralagus for the Lunar New Year, so, I did!
"You know, they say that in ancient times there were also rabbits. But of course, they are not like the ones we know, because they were huge. More than any hare you know."
"And they say, that on the top of the mountain, where the sun hides and talks with the moon, lived the biggest rabbit of all. So powerful that the cats could not face him, but so wise and kind that the birds sang in his honor every dawn.
He was their king, the giant rabbit of Menorca."
More Nuralagus rex thing, i love this boi
