The Paleo Party Guest of the day is the Imperial Woodpecker!

This is the largest woodpecker species of all time and they might be extinct... There might be a chance they are still alive in a heavily wooded area that is hard to traverse but currently they have been labeled as extinct.

These pigeons never carried messages (that's the homing pigeon) and the name comes from a French word referring to their migratory habits.

Did you know domestic breeds can qualify as going extinct? For instance, some breeds of dogs whose purpose ended have gone extinct like these little dogs utilized for turning spits in medieval kitchens, which became defunct as cooking technology improved.

These creatures are still alive?! Evolved hundreds of millions of years ago and you can still go out there and find one alive today!

(Yes, stromatolites are more a sedimentary structure as the result of living activity but trace fossils are fossils too!)
