🚨 AHPRA English Requirement Change – Effective 23 April 2026
If you're planning registration in Australia as a healthcare professional, this update is critical.
📢 The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has officially updated English test score requirements from 23 April 2026.
👉 What’s changing? ✔️ New minimum scores apply to tests taken on or after 23 April 2026 ✔️ Old scores apply only if your test was taken before 22 April 2026 ✔️ If using two test sittings, you must meet old + new rules based on test dates
💡 Important insight: This change is based on updated global research—but it does NOT change the overall English proficiency level required.
👉 Accepted English tests remain the same: ✔️ IELTS Academic ✔️ OET ✔️ PTE Academic ✔️ TOEFL iBT ✔️ Cambridge (C1/C2)
⚠️ What this means for you: ❌ You cannot rely on old score criteria if you take the test after 23 April ❌ Planning your test date is now more important than ever ❌ Even small score differences can impact your registration
🎯 Strategy tip: If you're close to meeting the old criteria, timing your test before or after the deadline can make a big difference.
📌 Bottom line: This is not just a score change—it’s a strategy change for healthcare applicants.
Don’t risk delays—plan your AHPRA pathway carefully.
