ANOTHER NURSING FIGHT!!
Got into an argument with my nurses’ aides!! And how I resolved it the wrong way…. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE I have 2 nurses’ aides that refuse to take ONLY a 30-min lunch break, they take a 45min break and come back from break with food. They sit and eat for an extra 30mins. CALL BELLS GOING OFF, they’re still sitting and eating. Call bells are call lights patients have in their rooms to call for assistance. So, they would press their little red button and an alarm will sound off for staff to answer when they need help with anything. So, at the end of the shift I pulled all the nurses’ aides to the side and with my charge nurse spoke to them about taking breaks on time. They walked away at the end of my last word with attitude and disregarded what I said, when I spoke to them respectfully, and gave them a fair warning that they will get written up if its repeated. When the supervisor came to our unit to complain about all the bells going off and wanted to write up the CNA’s we stated that we just had a staff meeting and it went bad. They disregarded what we said, and walked away disrespectfully. SUPERVISOR STATED THAT NEXT TIME, WE MUST LET HER KNOW, AND SCHEDULE A MEETING WITH HER INVOLVED TO INTER-MEDIATE THE CONVERSTAION SO ITS WELL DOCUMENTED AND SHE CAN BACK US UP. So, my lesson is, don’t take it upon yourself to try to manage any conflicts with your staff make sure to let your supervisor know what’s going to help you decide on resolutions. Because chances are they will take what you say wrong and it will escalate. YOU’RE NOT DOING THEM OR YOU A FAVOR PULLING THEM TO THE SIDE TO TALK ABOUT THEIR ACTIONS. They know what they are doing, and if their as disrespectful as my staff they don’t deserve chances.
