In our modern days when our kitchen equipment wears out, breaks down or falls apart just after a few years of use it is always a marvel to come across little wonders like this 85 year old grinder. Still in working condition, it is the most humble of kitchen helpers. Invented by Carl Sundstrand in 1935, it is 100% hand powered, with simple inner workings that involve only a hand crank and two rows of rotating metal teeth. Tasked with petite jobs like grinding nuts, chopping dried herbs and making bread crumbs, Carl wanted to create a practical kitchen tool that eliminated chopping messes caused by using a traditional knife and also to create more uniform end result with pieces all of similar size. While some might just consider this a cute heirloom from history long ago, it’s actually quite a powerful symbol of 20th century kitchen innovation:) In addition to this grinder, Carl invented all sorts of other helpful household items too including the cheese grater, the clothesline reel and needlenose pliers. Cheers to Carl and his all-star improvements of the 1930s kitchen star! . . . . . #1930skitchen #inventors #nutgrinder #kitchenequipment #nutlovers #inventions #redkitchen #1930sstyle #handcranked #mechanicalengineering #chopping https://www.instagram.com/p/B8ZReSZAsWf/?igshid=8zav4lz3c81y
