why do some island puerto ricans not like nuyoricans and look down on them? i've noticed that every time nuyoricans are being talked about , i see island puerto ricans saying that nuyoricans are not "real puerto ricans"
From my perspective, I think they assume that nuyoricans don’t have the same connection to the culture since they aren’t on the island. The assumption might be that they are more likely to be Americanized/whitewashed.
There’s also the fact that people in Puerto Rico go through different struggles that Puerto Ricans in New York don’t (such as issues due to colonization).
