Come Spaniard came up in my workplace askin if i spoke castellano (the language of the region of Castile in spain)..con ura cara de culo mirandome como si le dio fama y no quiso preguntarme si yo hablaba espa~nol..
pense, pero no le pude decir “scuze me papo this is New York City and we speak more spanish here than Castellano, which is a dialect of [our] language, not a seperate one”
I thought about how that paralleled to that shit murricans say about speaking english, but it didnt really parallel, it intersected.
its only [our] language cuz yall pushed it on my ancestors after colonizing the hell out of them by “saving” and “civilizing” them with language, labor exploitation and indoctrination of religion.. .But now my spanish is somehow not yours?
Unless i look like folks from the region of Castile , he needs to be reminded that Espa~nol is way more common than Castellano.
I wonder if this is just a common thing that Spaniards do, and what its like when people who speak other dialects do it in the “motherland”...why would some people from the nation that colonized all our lands have a thing about their dialect being a whole other language, como si no se prefiren identificar que es lo mismo. gotta break it to ya..what was once your kingdom was built on the backs of my peoples across the water. some of these folks got issues accepting their inheritance ..plus your country is fucking you over too, so chill.
