National Women Physicians Day was first observed on 3 February 2016. The date commemorates the birthday of physician Elizabeth Blackwell (1821-1910), who was the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States. A pioneer of her time, Blackwell continues to be a role model for women who dream of becoming a doctor.
