NY May Soon Adopt The Right Policies To Become a Clean Energy Leader
The NY Public Service Commission is expected to vote tomorrow on its Clean Energy Standard (CES) that has a goal of generating 50% of NY’s electrical energy needs through renewable energy sources by 2030. At the same time, this plan provides zero emission credits (ZECs) for electricity generated at nuclear plants. These set of policies will increase renewable energy production, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and maintain NY’s clean electricity from nuclear sources. To often renewables energy sources have been replacing nuclear power instead of replacing fossil fuels. As proposed, the NY CES with zero emission credits will propel NY forward as a clean energy leader. Here is a link to the webcast for tomorrow’s Public Sevice Commission meeting that is scheduled to take place at 10:30 AM ET. Additionally, here is an excellent article by James Conca that summarizes the benefits of the NY Clean Energy Standard.
