Soulwax- NY Lipps (Kawazaki Remix)
A hint of disco never hurt anyone. That's the excuse that we're making.
chill morning.
Soulwax-NY Lipps
Excuse me.
Along with Mylo's Drop The Pressure and Alter Ego's Rocker, both of which I've already gushed about on here, Soulwax's NY Excuse was the final leg on the electro milk stool that made up the golden summer of 2004.
We got drunk and put on club nights that nobody came to, hung out with London hipsters, Bristol students, Northerners who should've known better, and NY Excuse was one of the tracks we couldn't get enough of. At the same time, I also started slowly getting into older electro and disco, and Lipps, Inc's Funky Town was a personal favourite.
So I was rather excited that, when NY Excuse finally came out as a CD single in 2005, it not only had a DFA remix in Another Excuse, but also this remix of the mash-up that would eventually appear on Soulwax's genre-defining Nite Versions album.
One way or another, the Dewaele brothers (and arguably Nancy Whang to a certain extent too) have soundtracked some of my most important moments in the last 10 years.
