In NY-15, longtime Rep. José Serrano is retiring from the US House of Representatives and his seat is up for grabs in the June 23rd primary.
Rather appallingly, a slight favorite in the southern Bronx district is Rev. Rubén Díaz Sr., a Trump-friendly homophobe and anti-abortion Pentecostalist preacher.
There are 12 candidates in the primary, 7 of whom are considered progressive. The divided progressive vote could allow the pro-Trump Díaz to win with just 20% of the vote in the most Democratic congressional district in the US.
Victory Fund is urging progressives to unite behind Ritchie Torres, the strongest opponent to Díaz.
Coalition Calls on NY-15 Candidates to Unite Behind Ritchie Torres; Defeat Anti-LGBTQ, Anti-Choice Rubén Díaz Sr.
So if you live in NY-15, vote for Ritchie Torres. He’s a real Democrat who will stand with Speaker Pelosi against encroaching authoritarianism. If you are already a registered voter in NYC and haven’t gotten your application to vote by mail yet, then go here and fill out the form. But act quickly, the primary election is two weeks from Tuesday.
