(VERY BIG DISCLAIMER) I wrote this for hell of it (or that fact it been living rent free in my mind and IT NEEDS OUT) It's short, no clue if I would continue. But it kinda fun, so I might continue? (side eye my IQ and ABO fic)
After being taken back to their mansion, they had gathered in the living room. The atmosphere was heavy and quiet, no one dared to speak a word. After witnessing everything that happened but no longer existed. There were no words to describe the experience. The happy days that are now bygone days. The sad days that are etched to the very soul. The horrors that will continue to haunt him. All they could do is watch helplessly, wishing for all to be untrue. Yet they all understood that all this was real when the proof is right in front of them.
Lost in a world completely unknown to him.
Betrayed by the people he loved so dearly.
Watching the people he loves die, eventually succumbing to his own despair.
They wanted to speak to him, tell him to not worry anymore. That they are here to help. But what can they do? How can they ease his worry, his fear, his sadness. Could they carry the burden that he had to carry all this way?
It is not a question if they could. They have to. Not out of guilt, but out of love. For the person who fought so hard for them, it was only right for them to fight for him too. How can they give up now?
“...Subaru,” Emilia broke the silence. Everyone in the room turned to look at her at the same time.
“Yea?” Subaru looks up instinctively; finding himself faced with Emilia's determined face and his heart felt a tight squeeze.
“I won't ask you for anything that you don't want. I know it's been reeaally hard on you,” Emilia takes a deep breath to compose herself, shivering as she did. “No matter what, we will stand by you. That's why, I hope you will stand by us too.”
Subaru’s eyes widened, tears threatening to fall as he bit the bottom of his lips. What can he say in this situation? That he died because he wanted to? That is not entirely true, he never liked to die. He was scared of death, even more so than anyone he feels. Why did this have to happen? Why did they have to know? Why did Satella allow this to happen? There is just so much he wants to ask that he just knows that he would never get an answer.
“Mm,” Subaru hummed, the words caught up in his throat. Is he happy or is he sad? He couldn't really tell right now. He was scared of what they would think of him when they realised he was a fraud.
‘Ahh, here comes the waterworks’, he thinks realising he could no longer hold his tears anymore. His vision turned blurry. He looked away, the feeling of shame coming back full force.
Emilia’s heart broke watching her knight cry. A part of her wonders if she should look away because she knows he disliked letting her see him cry. But a small part of her is glad that he is crying. At the very least, he no longer have to hold back around her anymore, right? Maybe then he would be willing to rely on her more. She had no way of knowing, but she wanted to have faith in her knight. She moves closer to Subaru.
“We can do this together, I am sure of it,” Emilia leans on Subaru, her hand hesitating slightly before holding his hand and giving it a light squeeze. “So just this once, leave it to us, alright?”
He wanted to believe in Emilia, in everyone. He so badly wants to be freed from it all. Yet, his traitorous heart couldn’t help but wonder.
Can you really leave it all to them?
I swear the title is plot relevant, I just couldn't think of a place to cram it in here.
