New York City public pools are the best way to beat the sweltering humidity and blazing sun during our warm months. And did you know most NYC pools even offer free swim lessons? So if you can’t get out of the city this August, know there are plenty of options across the city where you can keep your cool. Check our list below for the public pool nearest you, all of which are open June 27th to September 1st 2016.
Dry Dock
This East Village pool welcomes you all season. And with a kiddy pool and a number of children games, this is an ideal place to bring your little ones.
Opening hours: 11 am to 3 pm then 4 pm to 7 pm.

Thompson Street Playground Pool
Because this outdoor pool is rather small and shallow it’s ideal for kids.
Opening hours: From 11am to 3pm then 4 to 7 pm
Address: Thompson Street between Spring and Prince Streets
Frederick Douglass Pool
What’s called a ‘mini pool,’ the Frederick Douglass Pool can get a little crowded at times. But it’s still a great place to beat the heat.
Opening hours: 11 am to 3 pm then 4 pm to 7 pm.
Amsterdam Ave. between 100th & 102nd
Asser Levy Pool
With both an intermediate and a wading pool, the Asser Levy Pool offers early bird and night owl lap swim hours.
Opening hours: 11 am to 3 pm then 4 pm to 7 pm.
Asser Levy Place and E. 23rd Street
John Jay Pool
With both an intermediate and a diving pool, the John Jay Pool is perfect for not only getting in the laps, but also for keeping your splash down.
Opening hours: 11 am to 3 pm then 4 pm to 7 pm.
East of York Avenue on 77th St.
Lasker Pool
A large, oval pool, the fun at Lasker pool doesn’t end when the skies go gray. That’s because it’s turned into an ice rink in the winter for seasonal year-round fun.
Opening hours: 11 am to 3 pm then 4 pm to 7 pm.
110th Street & Lenox Avenue
No matter where you are in the city, you’re feeling the impact of the warm summer months. And staying indoors gets old pretty quick, especially when the sun is shining. So if you’re looking for some relief from the sticky conditions- and you’re getting bored indoors- know there’s a pool to keep you cool nearby.
