What, only #10? NYC is so overrun with rats, the mayor has announced a strategy that he said people who have a car in the city won't like, b/c it involves closed garbage receptacles (no more plastic bags) and it will interfere w/parking and garbage collection.

NYC Primer - for those that don’t/haven’t lived there or travel there regularly

AIRPORTS: There are three airports that are considered NYC airports (if you do a Kayak search they’ll come up): JFK, LaGuardia (LGA), and Newark (EWR). JFK and LGA are in Queens (part of actual NYC) and EWR is in Newark, New Jersey. I’m not going to pretend any of these airports are convenient, because they’re not. Public transportation to and from is abysmal especially if you’ve traveled in other countries. BUT Newark is a million times less convenient if you’re staying in NYC than JFK and LGA. So if the photo caption hadn’t specifically mentioned JFK, it would have been accurate to say Harry was flying out of NYC via Newark. Fun fact: 30% of all delays in the UNITED STATES are because of the NYC airports.

FOOD: NYC has AMAZING food. There are chains and there are non-chain restaurants. Smith & Wollensky’s is a higher end chain restaurant. There’s certainly nothing wrong with it, but I highly highly doubt it’s one of Harry’s favs. The Zagat review even talks about “execs entertaining clients.” 

NEIGHBORHOODS: There are neighborhoods that celebrities walk around in all the time and they aren’t randomly spotted by fans. Midtown or Times Square are not two of those areas. I’m not claiming that this fan opportunity was organic, but it is also certainly possible in those areas to be seen at a higher rate than others.  Also, Harry went to Smith & Wollensky’s twice in 3 days. My bet has always been that Harry and Louis have a place either in TriBeCa or the Meatpacking District. Both have great places to eat and a minimum of tourists.

It made me feel so much better and less alone to know that you also felt those same nerves and anxiety when moving to NYC. Can you give any more tips on living here?? What makes your time here worth it?

Tbh NYC is really expensive but on the other hand A LOT of fun things are super cheap/free.

Tips

Honestly, don’t be afraid to talk to ppl! Sometimes I forget I live here and sometimes forget like there are so many opportunities right in front of me. Literally, esp if you wanna work in media or fashion, if you are social and talk to anyone that someone is someone or knows someone so always be social and make connects. Actually, make friends frist then connects like don’t come up to people and like ride them and make it obvious you have an agenda bc it just turns ppl off. 

When planning to travel to a place by train….check the schedules the morning of bc things change like fast lol 

When thrift shopping–dont go to buffalo exchange or any thrift shop in Williamsburg–they all overpriced and very wh*te

Grocery shop in Chinatown–especially for your seafood!!!!

If you’re moving into an apartment you can literally drive around the city and pick up perfectly fine furniture ppl are throwing out or leave in boxes for free. My best friend is a dog walker and comes home with beautiful knick knacks all the time like one time she found a purple amethyst crystal candle holder that probably woulda retailed for $50+ 

Dont shop in times square...its just the most annoying place ever. You can probably find better places close to you anyway

Some fun stuff to do if you’re into art/museums/and stuff of that nature:

 the Chelsea Galleries are free and you can pretty much walk around Chelsea and walk into any gallery no problem and just look at art, photography, film, video installations etc.

The Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum (and all its brances–Met Breur, Met Cloisters, etc.) are pay as you wish–meaning you can literally pay 25 cents and enjoy all the art! The prices they show on the board are literally just amounts they advise you give, but you are not obligated to! It’s honestly a tourist scam fuck my broke ass look like paying $12 to look at shit they stole from my ancestors but anyway lol. Also, the Museum of Natural History has a planetarium that I believe is $16 extra to get in but im not sure

The New Museum, The Whitney, Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim, Brooklyn Museum and Cooper Hewitt I believe are free for college students. If you’re not a college student I believe it is the MoMA that does free Fridays–they house Van Gogh’s Starry Night here! And I’m not sure about the rates of the Brooklyn Museum , The New Museum and Whitney but you can google them! Also, if you’re a student I believe you get a +1 for the Whitney and Cooper Hewitt (I think….)

I’ve never been but my friends have but the, Bowery Poetry club always has events like around $10 for tickets and some open mic nights!

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens are free Tuesdays!

Central Park is fun to walk on a nice day

Also, idk like I just feel like this city is very me. I have grown a lot here and came out of my shell a lot and met a lot of great people and had a lot of memorable experiences. That sounds corny but its #facts.
