Sending this to Bill De Blasio, Mayor of NYC, to help catch him up on the history of the Civil Rights Movement. De Blasio on the mass arrests in NYC on Wednesday: “'The civil rights movement, maybe you've heard of it?' the mayor replied. 'Civil disobedience, it's called civil disobedience. Gandhi, King, et cetera. You plan with the police what's going to happen.'” http://gothamist.com/2015/05/01/de_blasio_protest_101.php
Woke up with this on repeat in my head.
NYPD's announcement threatening arrest at the New York solidarity rally for Freddie Gray and Baltimore.
"This is the New York City Police Department. Please be advised that pedestrians are not permitted to walk in the street or roadway. Pedestrians are also prohibited from obstructing sidewalks. Groups of pedestrians utilizing the sidewalks must ensure that sufficient space is available for use by other pedestrians. If you unlawfully obstruct pedestrian traffic or walk in the street or roadway, you may be placed under arrest or charged with disorderly conduct, a violation of New York State penal law."
We live in a real, live dystopia, folks. Now you can be arrested for taking up too much sidewalk space.
